Garmin fixes system crashes for mid-range smartwatches with new beta software releases
Garmin has released two updates in quick succession for the Instinct 2 series. To recap, the company issued Beta Version 16.07 at the end of last month, full coverage of which we have provided separately. In summary, the update contained a few changes from Beta Version 16.06, which itself built upon Beta Version 16.02.
While Garmin has now jumped a few build numbers, it has not actually provided too many improvements for the Instinct 2 or its peers like the Instinct 2X Solar (curr. $424 on Amazon). In fact, the company reports that Beta Versions 16.09 and 16.10 contain one big fix each. As such, neither update provides refined functionality for the Instinct 2 series.
Instead, both updates target potential system crashes that could occur when disconnecting an Instinct 2 series smartwatch from something. Specifically, Instinct 2 smartwatches should no longer crash when disconnecting them from a computer. Likewise, Garmin claims to have resolved a similar bug that occurred when disconnecting a smartwatch from mass storage. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when any of these refinements will extend beyond Garmin's Beta Program by way of a new stable update. Please see Garmin's latest forum post for further details about its recent Instinct 2 series updates.
