OnePlus Watch 2R arrives as a lighter and cheaper OnePlus Watch 2

The OnePlus Watch 2R is the latest WearOS smartwatch from OnePlus, and while it looks a bit different from the OnePlus Watch 2, it still packs the features we love from the latter. The best part is that it costs even less.

Just like the OnePlus R-series of smartphones is known to be cheaper variants of the flagship series, the same also applies to the OnePlus Watch 2R. In simple terms, it is a cheaper version of the OnePlus Watch 2. To arrive at this lower price tag, there have been some changes. For starters, the stainless steel chassis of the OnePlus Watch 2 has been replaced with an aluminum alloy. While it isn't as durable, aluminum is lighter, and the Watch 2R is significantly lighter. There are also two round physical buttons on the watch, sans the weird flat edge on the OnePlus Watch 2.

The OnePlus Watch 2R also uses 2D glass instead of 2.5D sapphire crystal as is present on the OnePlus Watch 2 while the bottom case is just plastic and doesn't contain glass fiber. However, it retains the IP68 dust and water resistance rating but isn't MIL-STD-810H certified. Save for these differences, the rest of the features are the same.

The OnePlus Watch 2R has a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen, the same Dual-Engine Architecture technology which includes a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor and a BES 2700 efficiency chipset. There is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage and OnePlus has kept the battery capacity unchanged, so users get up to 100 hours of battery life like the OnePlus Watch 2 offers. Other features are NFC, dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and Bluetooth calling.

The OnePlus Watch 2R can track over 100 sports with auto-recognition of 6. It also has native syncing with the Strava app. Health tracking features are unchanged from the OnePlus Watch 2 but OnePlus says it has redesigned the OHealth companion app.

The OnePlus Watch 2R comes in Forest Green and Gunmetal Gray and is priced at €279 in Europe and £249 in the UK and is available to buy now. In the US, it is priced at $229.99 but is currently discounted to $199.99, matching the price of the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE (curr. $199 on Amazon), and is available to buy today. Those in India will be able to purchase it for ₹17,999 starting on July 20th.
