OnePlus Nord 4 unleashes 5G encased in metal for first time
The OnePlus Nord 4 has now officially replaced the Realme GT 6T as the latest re-brand of the respectably Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3-powered Ace 3V for the Indian and European markets - except that it is the only one of its clones to bring the metallic unibody back to the Android smartphone world in 2024.
OnePlus asserts that the new "Nordtone" design allows for strong, consistent 5G signals thanks to unique engineering such as a U-shaped array of antennae and also packs a 100W SuperVOOC 5,500mAh battery - yet is still just 7.99 millimeters (mm) in thickness.
AI Starts with Nord in the series' 4th-gen flagship, conferring features such as AI Smart Cutout for the iOS-like conversion of things in photos into stickers as well as AI Best Face and Snapdragon Image Processing for its 50MP main rear camera.
The Nord 4 also still packs the 3V's 120Hz Aqua Touch 1.5K OLED display, Android 14 (in the form of OxygenOS 14.1) and Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX HD, but lacks a 3.5mm jack or a microSD card slot.
The OnePlus Nord 4 is available in Mercurial Silver, Oasis Green and Obsidian Midnight finish options for its metal shell, and is available for pre-order in Europe from now at €499 (~$543) or £429 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, or €599 (~$652)/£529 for a 16GB/512GB top-end SKU - which undercuts the GT 6T on Amazon in Europe.
In India, a 12GB Nord 4 will go for INR 35,999 (~$431), although there will also be an 8/256GB option at INR 32,999 (~$395) from July 20, 2024.
