Sony Xperia 5 VI pictured in early leak without dedicated camera shutter button
Sony has officially announced two smartphones globally, which it sells as the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI (curr. $393 on Amazon). Thus, the Xperia 5 V remains the most recent Xperia 5 model, despite being released almost a year ago. While there had been rumours suggesting that Sony had decided to end the Xperia 5 with its fifth generation model, a recent retailer listing implies otherwise.
Specifically, Alza.de published an accessory listing relating to the Xperia 5 VI, evidence of which we have embedded below. Please note that the retailer has since deactivated the listing. Nonetheless, we managed to grab a screenshot of the listing before it became inaccessible, as well as associated product images. Ultimately, it seems that few design differences exist between the Xperia 5 V and Xperia 5 VI, especially when compared to the Xperia 1 V and Xperia 1 VI.
For example, the Xperia 5 VI retains a dual rear-facing camera set-up, plus a 3.5 mm jack and a USB Type-C port that sits on the device's bottom edge. However, Sony has removed the dedicated camera shutter button, a staple of Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 smartphones until now. Additionally, it has repositioned the LED flash between generations. Despite not being a notable change itself, it could be a hint that other camera upgrades are on the horizon, as was the case with this year's Xperia 1. Unfortunately, other details about an Xperia 5 V successor remain unknown for now, although we imagine that Sony will IFA 2024 to officially unveil the Xperia 5 VI in September.
