Garmin has started rolling out a new stable update to one of its popular mid-range smartwatch series. Available now globally, the update seeks to resolve various outstanding bugs, including plenty that could cause issues in a variety of activities.

Only a few days have passed since Garmin rolled out Beta Version 16.10 for Instinct 2 series smartwatches like the Instinct 2X Solar (curr. $446.29 on Amazon). For context, Beta Version 16.10 was the fifth v16 update that Garmin released publicly after v16.02, v16.06, v16.07 and v16.09. However, it had not offered a new stable update for the series since mid-April when it flighted System Software 15.08.

Without warning, it has now introduced a replacement though, which is arriving as System Software 16.10. In a beta forum post, Garmin explains the following about the new update:

Our latest public release is now available to everyone through traditional channels. This concludes our 16.xx Beta period. Thank you to everyone for your participation in this program. We look forward to working with you when our next Beta is available.

As such, System Software 16.10 bundles all the changes that Garmin developed during its 16.xx beta phase. Unfortunately, this means that the new software does not add any new features. Instead, it focuses on bug fixes, of which there are eight for the Instinct 2, Instinct 2S and Instinct 2X. By contrast, the Instinct Crossover misses out one change, which we have outlined in the changelog below. Please see Garmin's Instinct 2 series forum posts linked below for more details.

  • Fixed issue where Bouldering rest timer could be truncated.
  • Fixed issue where data could be covered up on activity summary page.
  • Fixed issue where high/low temperature could be truncated on Morning Report page.
  • Fixed issue where inReach screen could be displayed after using the Health Monitoring app.
  • Fixed issue where Strength activity timer could be truncated.
  • Fixed issue with Battery Saver watch face where time would not update correctly.
  • Fixed issue with CIQ watch faces in Watch Face menu. (Instinct 2/Instinct 2S/Instinct 2X specific)
  • Fixed issue with Sight' N Go hot key when accessed outside of an activity.
