MagicX XU HD revealed as future Anbernic RG35XX gaming handheld competitor
It seems that MagicX is preparing to introduce another retro gaming handheld. To recap, the company appeared to have developed the XU Mini M earlier this year as an alternative to the Anbernic RG28XX and Miyoo Mini A30. However, nothing substantive has surfaced since the spring.
According to @forthenextlive, MagicX is actively developing the XU HD, though. At first glance, the device resembles recent Anbernic RG35XX series releases, such as the RG35XX 2024 (curr. $79.99 on Amazon). As such, the XU HD has a 3.2-inch and 4:3 display that outputs at 1,024 x 768 pixels. Incidentally, this would be a considerably more pixel-dense panel than those inside RG35XX models, which all output at 640 x 480 pixels while spanning 3.5-inches across.
The XU HD lacks any joysticks though, just like vertical RG35XX gaming handhelds. Instead, it features an unusual-looking d-pad, as well as ABXY buttons, start/select buttons and two pairs of shoulder buttons. Additionally, @forthenextlive claims that the device does not support Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity, which underlines its alleged $40 target price. Nonetheless, the same account states that the XU HD will run MagicX OS based on Linux and should be powerful enough to emulate Nintendo DS, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation 1 games thanks to an 'A9 architecture Chinese chip'.
