Around a week has passed since Anbernic showcased gameplay footage of its next gaming handheld. Teased as a Nintendo DS alternative from the start, the footage highlighted the Anbernic RG DS' strength at emulating not just Nintendo DS games but also emulating more complex Nintendo 3DS titles. Also, Anbernic teased stylus support for both platforms.
For the time being, Anbernic continues to leave fans in the dark about a release date for its first dual-screen handheld. Past performance indicates that Anbernic will open pre-orders before the end of the month, as was the case with the RG476H and RG477M (curr. $299.99 on Amazon), among others. While Anbernic has not posted anything about the RG DS on its global social media channels, intrepid Redditors have noticed new teasers posted on Anbernic's QQ channel.
Embedded below, the teasers focus on the size of the RG DS and how it compares with past Nintendo DS handhelds. Officially, Anbernic has only confirmed the RG DS' width so far, which comes in at 161 mm. As a result, the RG DS is much wider than the Nintendo DSi, which spans a mere 137 mm across.
By the looks of things, the RG DS is about as tall as the Nintendo DSi XL, with which it also shares a 161 mm width. Despite seemingly being about 210~212 mm when unfolded too, the RG DS drops 4-inch displays for a 0.2-inch deficit on the DSi XL across both displays. While many specifications remain unknown for now, Anbernic has previously suggested that the RG DS will launch for less than $100.
