While rivals such as Ayaneo and AYN have announced multiple new handhelds recently, Retroid has largely maintained its product lineup this year. Now, the manufacturer has announced a permanent price cut for three of its handhelds, which has raised speculations that it might be clearing stock ahead of the arrival of new products.
According to a post on X by the official Retroid account, the Retroid Pocket Flip 2, Retroid Pocket 5, and Retroid Pocket Mini V2 have had their prices permanently reduced by $20. The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 (Snapdragon edition), which costs $229, is now available to buy for $209. The MediaTek version, which costs $179, retains its price tag.
The Retroid Pocket 5 has also received a price cut, now selling for $199 instead of $219. Meanwhile, the Retroid Pocket Mini V2, previously priced at $199, is now available for $179. The prices are already live on the Retroid website.
When asked if the price cut would be reflected on Amazon, Retroid replied that it wouldn't happen, as the cost associated with selling on Amazon makes it more expensive on the retailer's website.
Of the three deals, the Retroid Pocket 5 is the most exciting, as purchasing it along with the Retroid Dual Screen Add-on results in a price that is practically the same as the AYN Thor Lite, which has the same processor, RAM, and storage as the Retroid Pocket 5 (available on Amazon. The AYN Thor Lite costs $249, but if you purchase the Retroid Pocket 5 and the Dual Screen Add-On together, you pay $248 instead of $268, thanks to an additional $20 discount at checkout.
