AMD Ryzen 7 H 255

The Ryzen 7 H 255 is a chip from the Hawk Point family that is only available in China. The chip is identical to the older Ryzen 7 8745H and has 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) that run at up to 4.9 GHz, together with the still quite powerful Radeon 780M iGPU. An NPU for AI acceleration is not installed / activated.
The only difference between the 8745H and the 8745HS is the slightly higher standard wattage of the former, which may lead to slightly higher clock rates.
Performance
We expect this Zen 4 architecture processor to be about as fast as the Ryzen 7 7745HX (8 Zen 4 cores, 3.6 GHz to 5.1 GHz), meaning its multi-thread performance is slightly better than that of the Core Ultra 9 185H but a few percentage points behind the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
Architecture and features
Unlike Zen 3, Zen 4 offers AVX512 support along with other improvements such as larger caches/registers/buffers across the board. Otherwise, the 8745H has 16MB of L3 cache and a fast RAM controller (up to LPDDR5x-7500 and up to DDR5-5600). There are 20 PCI-Express 4 lanes for connecting devices such as NVMe SSDs (1.97 GB/s per lane) and graphics cards; USB 4 / Thunderbolt support is also on board. Please note that the APU is not overclockable and cannot be replaced by the user. It is permanently soldered to the motherboard (FP7r2 or FP8 socket interfaces).
Graphics
The Radeon 780M (12 CUs / 768 shaders, up to 2,600 MHz) can drive 4 monitors simultaneously with a resolution of up to SUHD 4320p. Hardware encoding and hardware decoding of the most common video codecs (AV1, AVC, HEVC) is also no problem. As far as games are concerned, many titles can still be played in 1080p at the beginning of 2025, even if most settings are set to Low or Low.
Power consumption
This Ryzen 7 series chip has a long-term power limit (standard TDP) of 35W to 54W, giving system manufacturers the choice of either improving battery life or making the system they are developing faster. In any case, an active cooling solution is a must for a notebook or mini PC equipped with this APU.
