Intel's new Ice Lake processors promise significant performance improvements for the integrated GPU. The version of the Core i7-1065G7 with 64 shader units is particularly interesting and is supposed to close the gap to AMD or even beat the Vega GPUs. Normally, you would expect a newer laptop being faster than its older predecessor. Sometimes however, this isn't the case. Unfortunately, the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 2019, which we are reviewing right now, is slower than the older model.

Intel has officially announced the 9th generation H-series 45 W processors today with several new features and performance improvements. Leading the stack is the Core i9-9980HK and the Core i9-9980H that sport an 8C/16T configuration with 16 MB L3 cache. The 9980HK is the only unlocked variant and can boost up to 5 GHz thanks to Intel's Thermal Velocity Boost. Preliminary performance results appear to show significantly improved multi-core performance compared to the 8th generation Coffee Lake CPUs. The 9th gen CFL-H Refresh CPUs will soon be seen in most gaming and content creation laptops from all major OEMs.

We have first display measurements of the two new ThinkPads T490s and X390. Lenovo managed to improve the brightness as well as the color accuracy, but not everything is better.

Lenovo sent us the two new laptops ThinkPad E490 and ThinkPad E590. After temperature problems with the Radeon GPU in last year's ThinkPad E480, we were eager to find out whether Lenovo fixed the issues or not for the new E490, but our initial measurements are not promising.

When Apple started selling the MacBook Pro 15 with the new 6-core CPUs, we saw numerous negative reports about the performance, especially with the optional i9 CPU. We previously reviewed the i7 SKU and it took several software updates before the performance of the i7 was stable, but the i9 still disappoints.
