Hyundai Ioniq 6 outpaces Tesla Model Y in real-world range test — results soured by lacklustre high-speed performance
Hyundai's Ioniq 6 has made waves numerous times since its release, partially because of its somewhat controversial design, but also because of its performance. It's certainly no speed demon, but it generally acquits itself fairly well where it matters. ArenaEV recently tested the Ioniq 6 Long Range AWD model at three different speeds and found some interesting results.
While the Hyundai Ioniq 6 did exceptionally well during the 90 km/h (ca. 56 mph) test, reaching 564 km (ca. 350 miles) and falling behind only the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ sedan's ridiculous 733 km marathon, it was less impressive at 60 km/h (ca. 37 mph), and downright disappointing at 130 km/h (ca. 81 mph).
In the low-speed portion of the range test, the Ioniq 6 LR AWD managed 708 km, putting it in the middle of the pack compared to the other EVs tested so far. In the 130 km/h (ca. 81 mph) test, however, the Hyundai only achieved 336 km (ca. 209 miles) of real-world range, putting it below all the competition, except for the 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range, which scored 334 km (ca. 208 miles) during the same test.
Middling high-speed performance aside, it's worth pointing out that ArenaEV tested the Ioniq 6 with the 20-inch wheels, which Hyundai quotes as having just 435 km (270 miles) of range, down from the 509 km (316 miles) possible with the 18-inch wheels. It's entirely possible that the 17% range boost from the smaller wheels could have pushed the Ioniq 6 higher up in the rankings.
Curiously, the 60 km/h test was the only time the Tesla Model Y Long Range beat out the Ioniq 6, delivering 728 km of range — 20 km more than the Hyundai.
Have you ever wondered how far will the #Hyundai #Ioniq6 go on one charge in REAL life? The answer is right here https://t.co/ERzNRwTK6N
