Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16 retested: GeForce RTX 4060 now properly running at 90 W to 100 W
In our review of the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16 back in August, we noted its unusually low 60 W RTX 4060 GPU against the advertised 100 W even when set to the Performance power profile with the dGPU active. Both synthetic and gaming scores were therefore lower than expected and far too close to the RTX 4050 for comfort. Our specific unit was seemingly stuck on Balanced mode for reasons unknown.
Luckily, we were able to secure a second unit from the manufacturer for retesting purposes not long after publishing our results on the first. Our second unit would perform notably faster to be closer to what we were originally expecting from the first unit. GPU clock rates and board power draw when running Witcher 3 would stabilize at 2655 MHz and 91 W, respectively, compared to just 2220 MHz and 60 W on our first unit. 3DMark results are approximately 15 to 30 percent faster as a result as shown by our comparison chart below.
Naturally, performance in games has also improved especially at higher resolutions where titles become GPU bound. Cyberpunk 2077, for example, would perform 30 percent faster on 4K vs. only 20 percent when on 1080p before applying any DLSS enhancements.

The higher GPU power draw from 60 W to 90 W has entailed higher core temperatures. The GPU on our second unit would stabilize at 69 C compared to 58 C on our first unit when running the same game as shown by our screenshots below. Meanwhile, CPU temperature and package power would remain the same as before. The bug we experienced on our first unit was seemingly only impacting graphics performance.
As always, it's never a bad idea to double-check recent purchases and make sure that they're performing where they're supposed to. Newer gaming laptops in particular have several layers of power profiles and GPU modes that can potentially conflict with one another. The standard Windows power profiles, for example, should match the Lenovo Vantage power profiles while the Lenovo Vantage GPU settings should match the GPU settings on GeForce Experience.
