Benchlife reports that it has obtained new details about a GeForce RTX 4080 refresh. Purportedly, the website received its information from some of NVIDIA's add-in board (AIB) partners, albeit without providing any proof to support its assertions. Hence, we would treat its claims with some scepticism for now.
Nonetheless, Benchlife's alleged specifications are within a ballpark of earlier leaks. Allegedly, NVIDIA is developing the refreshed GeForce RTX 4080 around its AD102 GPU, which currently remains a GeForce RTX 4090 exclusive. As VideoCardz notes, NVIDIA is also rumoured to have included 20 GB of GDDR6X VRAM, an amount that requires a 320-bit memory bus and is too wide for the AD102.
In other words, NVIDIA may align the so-called GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER as a Radeon RX 7900 XT competitor, which also relies upon 20 GB VRAM. Similarly, a GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER is said to rely on the AD103, the same silicon as the GeForce RTX 4080. Again, this change is to accommodate 16 GB of GDDR6X VRAM on a 256-bit bus, matching the GeForce RTX 4080. Unfortunately, pricing, availability and release dates remain unknown for now, including whether a SUPER refresh will appear before the start of next year.
