TCL has unveiled its latest form of display technology as part of its IFA Special Edition 2020 presentation. NXTPAPER is an alternative to e-ink that, as its maker claims, "repurposes natural light" to prevent eye-strain while still producing a convincing range of colors. These panels are also touted to improve on contrast, power-efficiency and thickness compared to more conventional screen materials.

The fourth-generation iPad Air has been linked to a new design that would leave it looking more like its Pro sibling. SvetApple has posted new renders based on its latest leaks. They include support for Touch ID, which is found embedded in the slate's power button. The images also depict a sizeable camera hump despite the presence of just one lens, as well as a USB type C port.

TSMC hints at securing Apple SoC production deal including 2 nm chips for the next 5 years

The Taiwanese foundries are already building a new R&D center for 2 nm technologies and beyond in Hsinchu, which should be ready some time in 2021. The exact timeline for the 2 nm volume production is not yet known, but TSMC reports that it has been collaborating with some of its customers on the development of this advanced node. Market analysts claim that Apple will be first to launch 2 nm SoCs thanks to a five-year production deal with TSMC.

Contrary to previous rumours, leakers are now claiming that Apple will not be releasing the fourth-generation iPad Air until 2021. The 11-inch device will adopt the design of the iPad Pro though, along with an A14 Bionic SoC and up to 512 GB of storage. The iPad Air will be compatible with the Apple Pencil 2 also and will start at US$649, up from US$499 for the current model.

Qualcomm posts its third-quarter fiscal performance for 2020

Qualcomm has announced that its third fiscal quarter of 2020 (3FQ2020, which ended on June 28 of this year) ended with a total of US$4.89 billion in revenue. It also reported $848 million in pre-tax profits, and paying $0.74 per share in dividends. However, it also already projects that, thanks to a new deal with Huawei, 4FQ2020 will turn out much better.

Microsoft has confirmed, albeit indirectly, that its eagerly anticipated dual-screen Surface Neo has been delayed. Following a blog post that indicated Windows 10X would debut first on single-screen devices, it became clear that plans for Windows 10X for dual-screen devices would be pushed back. However, it was only in the past day or so that Microsoft removed the “Coming Holiday 2020” timeline from the device’s webpage.

Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy Tab S7 series in just over a week, but the full spec sheet for both the Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus has been unveiled. The latest leak about Samsung's premium tablets confirms that the smaller model will have an LTPS TFT display, while the Plus model will sport an AMOLED panel. Apple could be making the next iPad Air cheaper than its predecessor

The next iPad Air may not only have a larger display and a more powerful chipset than the current model, but it may be cheaper too. The iPad Air 2020 is believed to feature a 10.8-inch or 11-inch display and an A13 Bionic SoC, which would both be improvements over the 10.5-inch display an A12 Bionic in the current model.

The MediaTek Dimensity 720 will bring 5G connectivity to even more low-cost smartphones

MediaTek has released a new 5G-ready SoC called the Dimensity 720. It consists of two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores and an ARM Mali-G57 GPU. The chip supports two carrier aggregation and sub-6GHz 5G networks. We can expect to see it debut alongside some mid-rangers later this year.
