Next-generation iPad Pro set for premium glass back finish with wireless charging support, more details on redesigned iPad mini
Apple is prototyping next-generation iPad Pro models with a new premium glass back design reports Bloomberg. The current iPad Pro design was introduced in 2018 and this upgrade would be evolutionary, rather than bring any major changes in appearance. It would bring the iPad Pro range in line with the iPhone Pro range which also features a premium glass back finish.
As with the iPhone Pro range, the rear glass has been added to facilitate wireless charging capabilities on the iPad Pro. According to Bloomberg, it would use a system similar to, if not identical to Apple’s MagSafe charging system introduced on the iPhone 12 range. It is also possible that Apple will add reverse wireless charging to the iPad Pro as well, allowing it to charge at least one other device.
The same Bloomberg report also said that Apple’s all-new iPad mini is expected to be unveiled later this year. It will feature slimmer bezels in line with the iPad Pro and iPad Air models and similarly will drop the home button. Touch ID incorporated into the power button will likely be used for biometric authentication. The entry level iPad is also getting a minor revision to make it a little slimmer, and presumably, lighter.
