Te | cra The Tecra series is Toshiba's answer to the demand for robust and durable business notebooks. Tecra introduces a lot of innovations, which, although not visible from outside, provide a lot of reliability and user-friendliness. Also the hardware of the new Tecra A9 is interesting, because it is based on the Santa Rosa platform.

Mobile Cinema. If you are willing to spend a little more on a subnotebook, Sony has an interesting offer for you: the TX5. Despite of its low weight of only 1.2kg and its small dimensions the stylish TX5 provides you with a bright concise display in 16:9 format and, furthermore, a DVD drive. Thanks to the noble 7800 mAh battery, you can even enjoy watching films away from your desk.

Old hand. The Lifebook S series bridges the gap between powerful 15 inch multimedia notebooks and very portable 12 inch notebooks. If notebooks of the first class are too big for you and of the other class too small, you are likely to find your notebook in the 14 inch class. They are among us... A long time ago, first reports about the new Intel chip set including new CPUs and video cards appeared in our news. Now time has come. We may report about: "Santa Rosa" built-in in the Samsung R70 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 CPU and NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GS video card. Intermediate. The Dell Latitude D620 is - as the name implies, an intermediate notebook between the Dell D420, a very mobile 12 inch subnotebook, and the D820, a standard 15 inch business notebook. Its 14 inch display provides a good overview at still restricted dimensions, and is also available with a resolution of up to 1440x900 pixels.

Close to the Limit. Currently the demand for notebooks is in general high, but, especially the market for reasonable beginner notebooks booms. Of course all manufacturers intent to put effort into this market segment, and place really reasonable notebooks in this segment, because the sales volume is high. Professional for journeys - with display weakness. Presumably designing a really good subnotebook is one of the most challenging tasks of mobile notebook development. It is essential to design a robust and light notebook which faces at the same time sufficient power and good battery runtime. Minimalist. The Dell D420 is one of the smallest and most mobile notebooks of the current Dell product lines. In the contrary to its competitors, Dell equipped the D420 with a WXGA display, which clearly contributes to the overview on the 12 inch display. The U2500 Core Duo processors combines good performance and low energy demand.

Big Business light. Also in the business segment there is a trend for 17 inch desktop replacement notebooks. They are appreciated because of their high-resolution displays and the possibility to choose more powerful hardware components which in turn enable the notebook to replace a desktop PC, as the name already implies.

Security First. Among its huge product range Hewlett-Packard also offers 14 inch models of the "Balanced Mobility" market segment. The HP nc6400 is not the most recent model, but this is only a subordinate aspect of high-quality business notebooks. Properties like a robust case, user-friendly input devices and comprehensive security mechanisms are far more important and durable.

Play your Game! The G1 is the 15 inch version of the Asus G series, which was especially designed for gamers. As required for a gaming notebook the G1 is regarding hardware well-equipped and strikingly designed.

Business Mate. You'll quickly find out that the Travelmate series by Acer is designed for business customers. However, single notebooks of this series still differ a lot regarding quality and equipment. The Travelmate 6465 is thereby one of the high-quality models and convinces by good equipment and robust workmanship, which of course has an influence on the price.

17 inch Flounder. Samsung is proud of building the smallest, flattest, and lightest notebooks - and rightly so. But even the challenge of designing a 17 inch notebook with adequate performance, does not means for Samsung to put the parts into a 5 cm case. On the contrary, the M60 by Samsung teaches us that also big DTR notebooks might have an elegant appearance.

Multimedia for Everyone. Among other Acer notebooks which were exhibited at the CeBIT, we would also like to present the Aspire 5114 to you. The Aspire 5114 is basically interesting, because it provides multimedia equipment, is fit for current games and this all for an absolutely low price - a mobile Core 2 Duo processor and an ATI X1600 video card just under 1000.- Euro.

Emozione Italiana. What Ferrari is for Acer, Lamborghini is for Asus - a calling card regarding design and technology. This is consequently put into practice by Asus. Its noble designed case (genuine leather inlays) together with the integration of up-to-date hardware is the leading force of the whole product range.

Scuderia Acer. It's common that various manufacturers aspire to cooperations with noble brands in order to polish up the own image. Acer tries to attract possible customers and reach expensive notebook brands by its Ferrari 5005 and terms like "Power to take the lead".

Gaming light. Asus copes the high demand for gaming notebooks by offering the Asus G1 and Asus G2 series. We visited the CeBIT in Hannover this year again and reviewed notebooks which might be interesting for you - among others the Asus G2.

Heavy Equipment. The Dell M90 is a strongman. First of all it has a robust and scuffproof case out of aluminium and composite materials. Additionally, it is equipped with a Core 2 Duo CPU and a really powerful NVIDIA Quadro FX video card, the master for CAD among NVIDIAs Geforce video chips.

Savings Champion. The Dell Latitude 131L is at the time of writing the most reasonable notebook of Dell's Latitude Business series. You get a robust 15.4 inch notebook for less than 1000.- Euro, which is well capable of handling all the daily office demands.

Messenger of the Gods. You feel like they already offered the same notebook? You are completely right. Still, the brand-new X2300 video card of ATI, the harbinger of the long expected new video card generation, induced us to look closer at the A8JR once more.

Basic version Besides the well-known Inspiron and XPS series, Dell also offers the Latitude series for business, but also private customers. The notebooks of this series feature special security mechanisms and robust cases out of magnesium. This should make the notebook's use reliable for hard business work.

Compaq(t). Are you looking for a small high-quality secondary notebook? The HP Compaq nc4400 could attract you. This 12" subnotebook features a robust case, hoch-quality input devices and misses out an optical drive and therewith is even smaller and lighter. A Core 2 Duo CPU provides sufficient power.

Rhinoceros. The Z series of the Think Pad series provides the advantages of a wide screen display and is optimized for business use. The notebook should prove its usefulness by the help of high-quality components and a robust reasonable case. How it actually performs, you can read here.

Trend Denier. Apart from notebooks with wide screen display hardly any other notebook models are available this time. You will just come across the nearly already unusual XGA panels at office notebooks. The decision for wide screen or not, depends on the planned usage and is also a matter of taste.

Red Dot Winner. The LG S1 Notebook is really well designed and impresses by its elegant simplicity as well as by its good workmanship. Because of a Core 2 Duo and ATI X1600 the LG S1 is also technically interesting.

Vaio Vista. The Vaio FE41Z is in general similar to the FE31, still it is interesting because of its very bright display using dual lamp technology, and its stylish design, and last but not least because of the brand-new Windows Vista. The performance of the Geforce 7600 (GT?!) under Vista arouse our interest, too.

Solid Basics. The Hewlett-Packard Compaq nx7400 is optimized for office use and has a solid and robust case. Current versions of this notebook can regarding performance by all means rate high, because of their Core 2 Duo processors.

Quadratic. Handy. Good? The Samsung X60 attracts by its angular and slim design. Especially the magnesium case impresses. What about the rest of the properties of this multimedia notebook? We take a close look at this elegant 15.4 notebook.

BIG Business. Sure, you are familiar with the following problem: You start lots of applications, among them possibly a graphical application with lots of toolboxes and the display gets so filled, that a clear view gets completely lost.
