Intel has taken wraps off its new Xeon E-2100 entry-level workstation processor family. The 6C/12T Xeon E-2100 is a derivative of the 14nm++ 'Coffee Lake' architecture and is tailored for creative professionals looking at a low-cost workstation CPU that offers improved single-threaded performance along with faster DRAM and higher PCIe lane counts.

The benchmark entry mentions that the GTX 2080 Ti card is part of a “special supply for GSS", suggesting that this could be an early test sample sent to GRUS Spars Solver testers that assess the machine learning capabilities. However, the denomination is not really in line with the GTX 11xx moniker that was confirmed by a Lenovo leak, so the information could be fake.

Seagate has launched a new range of BarraCuda SSDs for notebooks and desktop PCs. Targeted at the consumer market, the new SSDs come in capacities ranging from 250GB to 2TB.

DigiTimes reports that Nvidia may be experiencing some problems with the current GTX 10 GPU overstock and might postpone the launch of the GTX 11 family for a few months, despite already being in possession of around one million next gen GPU cards. This could mean that the custom-made AIB and mobility versions could launch almost at the same time as the Founders' editions.

AI, machine learning and computer vision application will be getting a boost via the new NGD Catalina 2 programmable SSDs. Coming in 2.5-inch / add-in-board form-factors, these solutions integrate Toshiba's 3D NAND memory chips and benefit from the PCIe 3.0 X4 speeds with peak sequential read/writes capping at 3.9 GB/s. The programmable part is handled through a Xilnix FPGA.

The Ryzen 5 2500X managed to get similar scores to Intel's gen 7 i7-7700 CPU, making it an excellent solution for budget desktops. It is the only quad-core/8-thread CPU in the Ryzen 2000 family and it should be a best buy at only US$20 over the Ryzen 3 2300X ~US$140 price. Additionally, it can easily be overclocked to 4.3 GHz on air, probably eevn higher on watercooled solutions.

The unannounced Ryzen 3 2300X is running at 3.5 GHz by default and can go up to 4 GHz via boost frequencies. On default air cooling it may be pushed to 4.3 GHz without any problems, but liquid coolers may be able to help push it even further. The processor managed to score 690 points in Cinebench R15, placing it right between Intel's i3-8100 and i3-8350K.

With the new "Bean Canyon" NUCs, Intel will introduce three new Coffee Lake-U CPUs: one dual-core (i3-8109U) and two quad-cores (i5-8259U, i7-8559U). All new CPUs will integrate the improved Iris Plus 655 GPU with 128 eDRAM and 48 execution units for superior mobile graphics processing power. As usual, the NUCs do not include RAM and storage solutions.

The Polaris 30 might come as a surprise, but AMD also neglected to mention the Polaris 20 GPUs in last year's roadmaps, so this looks to be business as usual for the red team. With a rumored 15% performance increase, the Polaris 30 GPUs will be comparable to the RX Vega 56 GPUs. AMD is also said to be preparing budget 7 nm GDDR6 GPUs for early 2019 and high-end HBM2 variants for late 2019.

Startup firm Tachyum's Prodigy is being billed as a Universal Processor Platform that claims to deliver over 10x performance over conventional CPUs in the Hyperscale Data Center market. The company claims that it can outperform the competition in AI applications and that it needs just about 250,000 of these chips to rival the human brain.

The new Z390 platform from Intel will bring support for the gen 9 mainstream CPUs that should go head to head with the Ryzen 2000 series. While the Z390 does not bring significant improvements, the i9-9900K is expected to deliver decent performance gains over the i7-8700K, also positioning itself as the direct competitor to AMD's Ryzen 7 2700 CPU.

AMD's upcoming HEDT processor, the 32C/64T Ryzen Threadripper 2990X has been spotted in the 3DMark database. While the entry does not show any performance score, it does show lower boost clocks owning to probably a non-XFR2 motherboard. Also, the pricing of the CPU was inadvertently leaked by a European online retailer. At just over Euro 1500, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X could give Intel's 28-core chip a run for its money.

ASRock's foray into the GPU market started with the Radeon RX 570 and RX 580-based GPUs when they became available in the Asian market a few months ago. Now, ASRock is making these GPUs available for the European market starting July 1. While the Radeon RX 570 and 580 are starting to age, they are a perfect bet for ASRock to test the waters and offer great bang for the buck.

Shuttle's mini PC lineup just got upgraded with GTX 1050 discrete GPUs from Nvidia. The new DH02U is powered by the Celeron 3865U dual-core CPU, while the more advanced DH02U model features the i5-7200U dual core. Both models are missing the storage and RAM solutions, but they do provide support for up to 32 GB of DDR4 and room for a SATA SSD plus an NVMe SSD.

With the new Legion Cube C730, Lenovo is attempting to provide a hybrid between mini PCs and mini tower desktops. The portability is quite affected by the 20-pound weight, but Lenovo does offer a handle to move the system around easier. Users can choose between the i7-8700K/8700 and i5-8400 six-core CPUs, up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 512 NVMe SSD plus up to 4 TB HDD storage, and a choice between the GTX 1060 and the Radeon RX 570 GPUs.

According to insider sources, Nvidia's desktop GPU team is already testing GTX 11xx prototype PCBs and the final specs should be announced in mid-July. One of these prototype PCBs was already leaked on reddit. The board does not feature the GPU, however the spec sheet includes 12 GB of GDDR6 VRAM with a 384-bit bus, three 8-pin power connectors and a second gen NVLink.

Surprising as it may seem, there is every possibility that the QHD monitor that you are using right now might in fact be a 4K panel. Supply shortages mean that OEMs could simply install a 4K panel, which are now almost as expensive or even cheaper than QHD panels and still be able to limit the output resolution via firmware. But how does one know whether the monitor has a native QHD panel or a 4K panel and does it affect regular usage?

NVIDIA's Add-in Board (AIB) partners are expected to receive the first shipments of NVIDIA's next generation 'Turing' architecture GPUs sometime in between late August to early September. The official nomenclature is yet to be made official but we can expect some leaks to crop up once the first shipments are out. The initial seeding to the AIB partners, however, is said to be in limited volumes.

The manufacturer is promising 64 GB/s from a single GDDR6 package for future applications in artificial intelligence, networking, automotive, and of course, graphics. Intel's upcoming Z390 chipset could be just a rebadged Z370 if the grapevine on the street is to be believed. The Z390 was expected to bring support for the 8-core 'Coffee Lake-S' CPUs along with an integrated USB 3.1 Gen2 Host Controller and Intel Wireless 802.11ac with Bluetooth 5.0 but it looks like Intel had a change of heart owing to increased strain in 14nm production.

The successor of the US$35 Renegade single-board PC by Libre Computer will hit Indiegogo in July and general availability is scheduled for August. This Raspberry Pi alternative uses a Rockchip RK3399 processor and features USB Type-C connectivity, 4 GB DDR4 memory, eMMC 5.x support, Gigabit Ethernet, and more.

The guys over at HKEPC revealed that the Threadripper 2990X 32-core CPU is running at 3.4 GHz by default and can go up to 4.0 GHz in boost mode. It also comes with 40 MB L2+L3 cache memory and a TDP of only 250 W. According to Cinebench R15, the AMD chip is a bit faster than Intel's 28-core processor at stock frequencies.

AMD has discretely revealed the Radeon PRO V340 — a dual Vega 10 multi-GPU card with 32 GB HBM2 memory. The Radeon PRO V340 is being targeted for virtualization applications with support for up to 32 concurrent users and hardware encode capabilities for H.264 and H.265 video while providing a built-in security processor for isolating the virtualized environment from the cloud provider.

AMD will be providing Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition driver updates for its 'Raven Ridge' APUs in a quarterly cadence as opposed to more frequent updates for its Radeon GPUs. This was clarified by an AMD rep to a user's query on the OverclockersUK forum. The drivers, however, will be delivered as WHQL certified releases.

Available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, Android-x86 8.1-rc1 brings Android 8.1 Oreo to most devices that have not been designed with this mobile operating system in mind, including desktops and portable computers. However, this version is the first release candidate build and comes with a few issues.

The Intel Hades Canyon NUC is finally getting a direct competitor in the form of the Chuwi HiGame. The manufacturer has gathered enough backers over the last few months to finally commit to an August launch window. Backers will be able to buy the Core i5-8305G SKU for $900 USD or a full $400 off the final retail price.

Expected to cost around US$160, the AMD Ryzen 5 2500X is almost as fast as the Intel Core i7-7700, while the cheaper (around US$130) Ryzen 3 2300X delivers about the same performance as the Intel Core i5-7600K. Both chips are manufactured using a 12 nm process and have a maximum clock speed of 4 GHz.

New leaks reveal that Nvidia's GTX 1180 will support higher refresh rates through one VR-friendly connection, making it possible to render 4K@120 Hz content for each eye, and this would also apply to the TV-sized G-Sync 4K monitors. Price-wise, the GTX 1180 will not match the original launch MSRP of the GTX 1080, as there will be two versions and the most affordable one is supposed to cost US$999.

AMD's semi-custom chipset technologies for Microsoft, Sony, and even Intel may be becoming too lucrative to ignore. If rumors are true, then the AMD Navi series will not be competing in the flagship space against the impending Nvidia Turing GTX 1180 or 2080 due to development commitments with Sony.

Apparently, the Zbox Q workstation mini PCs were quite the hit and Zotac now intends to release an updated version by the end of 2018. Zotac will only add a newer i7-8700T six-core CPU (plus a new motherboard) and a faster 10 GbE NIC to the already powerful specs that include Nvidia's Quadro P5000 16 GB VRAM GPU, NVMe + SATA storage combos and up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM.

PCWatch reported that the first mainstream desktop 8-core Coffee Lake-S CPUs should be launched in September along with the Z390 platform. These chips should cost more than US$400 and will come in 80/95 W SKUs. Intel will also launch refreshed 22-core Skylake-X HEDT processors and ultra-premium Cascade Lake-X chips by the end of the year.
