Microsoft is now rumored to be working on 4K webcams. These accessories, which are likely to go under the Surface brand, will be compatible with Windows 10-powered devices and the Xbox One. The new webcams, which may also support Windows Hello, may be available next year.

A recent report on thurrot.com alleges that Microsoft will bring out a new line of accessories for 2019: webcams with 4K resolution. This claim, which is apparently backed up with tips from 2 separate sources, also indicates that they will be compatible with the Xbox One as well as Windows 10. This new camera could be included in the Surface series of accessories, which also includes voice assistant-powered headphones and mobile mice.

However, it should be noted that the Surface Hub, a business-grade 'digital white-board' that mainly consists of a 50-inch smart screen, is also said to be getting an official webcam next year. Therefore, these rumors could have been misconstrued into a story about other types of Surface webcam. However, as this product is supposed to have a USB type-C connection, it stands to reason that it may also be compatible with other, newer types of Microsoft or Windows PCs.

A 4K webcam for the Xbox One is also a compelling possibility, as this putative product is also projected to integrate Windows Hello. Therefore, it could afford a user the ability to unlock their console with their face. However, time well tell if this will be a reality for the near future or not.
