You may or may not know Mad Box gaming studios by name. They are the creators of games including Project Cars 2 and Need for Speed: Shift. They have ambitious plans, however, to become a much more household name mentioned alongside Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox. Yesterday the company’s CEO Ian Bell tweeted the company’s plans to launch what it claims will be the most powerful gaming console ever made.
Today Bell tweeted some photos of what the planned console will look like with the internals blurred out at this stage. As you would expect for a device that is more of a cross between a console and a gaming PC, it looks pretty wild with bright color schemes the order of the day. Although the specifications haven’t been revealed, Mad Dog is targeting a whopping 180fps at 4K, which translates into 90fps per eye in VR.
Mad Dog also plans on giving away its game engine to software developers to help spur development for its new console. With performance that aims to outstrip anything we might expect from the next generation of consoles from both Sony and Microsoft, no doubt plenty of readers will want to get their hands on it. Sadly, we will all have to wait until around 2021 to see it in the flesh. Vaporware has never sounded so tantalizing.
