The PS5’s SSD won’t be enough to offset a substantially weaker GPU in 4K workloads (Image source: Sony)

Opinion | The Playstation 5’s “no loading” SSD is a gimmick: here’s why

During Sony’s announcement of the PlayStation 5’s key specifications, the console maker lavished a lot of attention on the PS5’s new SSD. While the 5.5 GB/s storage solution is blazing fast, it is not a cure-all for other, fundamental compromises in the PlayStation 5’s architecture relative to the Series X.

Opinion | Hardware isn't the whole story when it comes to console gaming: Xbox Series X vs. PlayStation 5 specs

Now that we know the specifications of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which console is the best? Considering all the factors that play into a console's graphical capabilities and its overall success, comparing specs on paper is a largely useless endeavor that ignores the broader picture of the console gaming experience.

No, the PS5 won’t offer anywhere near the graphics performance of Xbox Series X: Navi benchmarks prove it

Sony’s claim that high clockspeeds offset its meagre shader allocation on the PlayStation 5 doesn’t hold water when Navi overclocking results are factored in. Due to non-linear performance/clock scaling, the likely performance deficit between the two consoles is in the 25-30 percent range, which may have a major impact on 4K performance.

The Core i9-10900K may be using some tricks to reach 5.3 GHz. (Image source: Appuals)The Core i9-10900K has graced 3DMark before, but not at 5.3 GHz. Brought to our attention by @_rogame, the new is the first time that we have seent he 10 core Comet Lake S processor hitting such lofty clock speeds. Manufactured on a 14 nm process, the Core i9-10900K also has a 3.7 GHz base clock and supports Intel Hyper-Threading. Turbo Boost Max 3.0 (TBM 3.0) and Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB) will make an appearance, too. We should point out that the Core i9-10900K may only be capable of reaching 5.3 GHz on a single core. Additionally, it may potentially use TVB to reach this speed, in which case it could only maintain 5.3 GHz temporarily before dropping back to lower levels. Previous rumours have suggested that the Core i9-10900K could cost US$562 upon release. Intel may have delayed the launch of Comet Lake-S until May or June 2020, too. Separately, the 3DMark listing essentially confirms the existence of the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XII APEX, likely an LGA 1200 socket motherboard.
