OnePlus' Instant Translation feature was introduced back in 2019 with the 7T series. However, it had not materialized in any of this OEM's phones since then. It seems the company is ready to start a public test of this software now, however. It has been included in new builds of its Android skin, OxygenOS (OOS) for its newer phones.
These updates are Open Betas, however, and not the main "stable" OS versions . Nevertheless, the former are still official, and only differ from the latter in that they have new, experimental features to share with the users who partake in this program.
Accordingly, units of the 7T or 7 series that run OOS Open Betas can now use Instant Translation. It is found either in the devices' Settings, from which it can also be set as a Quick Settings tile. An analysis of this feature has found that it uses Google Translate in order to function, but may be erratic in terms of actual app compatibility at present.
An interested user could try it out by updating or switching to Open Beta 2 or 11 for the 7/7 Pro or 7T/7T Pro respectively. These installs also fixes a pre-exising issue with screen recording and elevates an applicable device's security patch level to March 2020.
