The OnePlus 8 may launch through both T-Mobile and Verizon
OnePlus' next series of smartphones is currently thought to offer 3 new variants: the 8, 8 Lite and 8 Pro. The first of these may be a premium device powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor. Like some of its recent forebears, it is also believed to be released through the US market through carriers. However, whereas these previous generations had just 1, the 8 might have a second.
This is in accordance with rumors that OnePlus has secured an agreement with Verizon to distribute the 8. Now, XDA contributors claim to have uncovered evidence to corroborate this. They have reported on lines in the OEM's code that appear to reference a “OnePlus8VZW”.
The full term "Verizon" is also seen in some of these strings. They are found in a new version (4.3.3) of the OnePlus Launcher, which is present on this company's phones and is also available on the Play Store. Therefore, it does seem the OEM will sell though Verizon in the future.
What about OnePlus' existing carrier-partners, Sprint and T-Mobile? It appears that they are also still in the picture in terms of future launches. The XDA has also reported the presence of a “OnePlus8TMO” alongside the supposed new SKU.
To date, it is not clear if this new putative version of the OnePlus 8 will be carrier-locked. However, the code-dissemblers have discovered strings that activate a custom wallpaper in response to the use of a specific NFC tag. This may suggest that the SKU in question is to be Verizon-branded, at least.
