At this stage, we know that OnePlus has a third smartphone in development. Tentatively called the OnePlus 8 Lite, even company executives have teased dummy versions of the handset. As the company has confirmed that it will be launching the OnePlus 8 series on April 14, there has been speculation that "series" could mean three devices this time around.
However, sources close to Max Winebach and Ishan Agarwal are stating otherwise. Apparently, the OnePlus 8 Lite is not called the OnePlus 8 Lite at all. On the contrary, the spiritual successor to the OnePlus X is now being referred to as the OnePlus Z. According to Winebach, the OnePlus Z still resembles the OnePlus 8 Lite.
Both Winebach and Agarwal have informed their followers that the OnePlus Z will be arriving "later this year". Speculatively, this could mean a summer release for OnePlus' budget offering. We say this as OnePlus typically releases T versions in late Q3 or Q4, making us doubtful that the company would leave it until then to release what is essentially a Lite version of the OnePlus 8.
According to previous rumours, the OnePlus Z will feature a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel that will operate at 1080p and at up to 90 Hz. Additionally, it will include a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 SoC, 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.0 storage. OnePlus will apparently include three rear-facing cameras too, along with a 16 MP Sony IMX471 front-facing camera a 4,000 mAh, Warp Charge 30T capable, battery.
