OnePlus promises an online pop-up for the 8 series
OnePlus is an electronics OEM that has gotten into the habit of hosting pop-ups in various cities worldwide. These events often involve relatively limited numbers of people (maybe in the hundreds) milling around and passing in and out of the same, often enclosed, space for hours. They are, therefore, woefully inappropriate for this half of 2020 and the measures necessary to flatten the curve of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, the OEM has announced that it will prioritize the health and safety of its staff and fans over its predeliction for pop-ups in conjunction with its upcoming flagship phone series. Instead, it has organized what it calls an online version of the same.
Access to this virtual event will be granted to the general internet public immediately after these devices' launch (which is also to be streamed) on April 14, 2020. It seems a solid idea: everyone who watches this live broadcast will be able to "attend" without actually going anywhere. On the other hand, the OEM has also stated that it is directed at residents of the EU only.
