OnePlus has been projected to launch 3 new phones in the first half of 2020: the 8, 8 Pro and a third, novel variant that may be called the 8 Lite (but is now thought to be called the Z). However, the OEM only revealed the first 2 at its latest unveiling. This may have been disappointing for fans waiting with bated breath to ascertain whether the 'missing' new phone really does run on the powerful and equally novel MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset.
However, there is now some evidence that the world will see the 8 Lite-slash-Z soon after all. OnePlus, which has scheduled a separate Chinese launch after the initial 8-series global event, has just posted an intriguing photo to Weibo. It shows a phone-sized box with a question-mark on its lid.
It comes with (translated) text that suggests a "mysterious new product" that users might like to see as well as the 8 and 8 Pro. Therefore, this product could indeed be the rumored new mid-ranger. However, it will not answer the question of where it was during the April 14, 2020 event either way.
