OnePlus 8 series officially confirmed to support wireless charging
OnePlus phones, for all their benefits, still lacked one key feature that differentiated them from regular flagships. Wireless charging has been one of the most highly-requested features on OnePlus devices. The upcoming OnePlus 8 series will be first to come with support for wireless charging. Several leaks centered around the OnePlus 8 series speculated that the feature would be included in the phones.
Earlier today, OnePlus Tweeted what appears to be one of its upcoming wireless chargers. A forum post linked to the Tweet sheds some light on some of the wireless charger's features. For starters, it will be able to charge devices at up to 30W. The post also claims that it can charge a phone from 0 to 50% in just half an hour. These speeds will very likely be limited to only OnePlus phones as there is mention of a 'specialized chip' on the phone that communicates with the wireless charging pad. The company rounds things off by stating that other Qi-capable devices such as smartwatches and wireless earbuds can be charged at 5W.
OnePlus' sister company Oppo has been hard at work developing high-speed wireless charging solutions for over a year now. It was only a matter of time before some of that tech trickled down to other BBK International products. It'll be interesting to see how OnePlus prices its first-ever wireless charger. That, and everything else, should be clear on the phone's April 14th release date.
