Just days after OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro globally, stunning the world with the US$999 top pricing of the OnePlus 8 Pro, the company has now brought the phones over to its home China—and with prices that may just annoy the rest of the world.
The OnePlus 8 carries a CNY 3,999 starting price tag. That converts into right about US$565, US$134 or roughly 27% less than its pricing in the US. The more premium OnePlus 8 Pro will retail in China for CNY 5,399, or about US$763, keeping that circa US$134 price differential steady when compared to its US$899 base price tag in the US.
While the differences in pricing may annoy some, it's understandable. OnePlus is a Chinese company after all, and most of its phones are made in China. That removes the factor of import duties and similar tariffs the company would have to account for when transporting the phones to the US and Europe. There's also the fact that Chinese models use a slightly different skin: Hydrogen OS vs Oxygen OS in the western world, and that likely allows OnePlus to make a bit more with collaborative deals.
