Rumor | Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to feature a web-chain system and web-swinging animation that will make the most of the PlayStation 5's powerful GPU
A couple of months ago there was an apparent leak on Reddit in regard to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The latest Reddit leak reiterates much of the information, such as the extended game-world area, the extensive list of villains, and the winter setting. However, the new rumors add substantial more detail to the actual gameplay and the work being carried out behind the scenes.
The redditor, UtopianThrowaway90, claims that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which may end up being an exclusive title for the PS5, will allow the player to control various characters in particular settings. There is also a “web-chain mechanic” where Spidey is able to move from one web to another in successive fashion. This appears to be the sort of game mechanic that will test the components of the upcoming PS5 and demonstrate its clear superiority over its predecessor.
Interestingly, the original poster states that there are two animators who have been given the task of improving the web-swinging animation for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The post mentions that the animation from Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 is being brought over, but there will be many more swing-release animations for the sequel. If this ends up being accurate, then it could be an ideal way to make the best use of the PS5’s graphics processor.
Lastly, there will be three different swing styles according to this latest rumor: realistic, arcade, and hybrid (not finalized names). “Hybrid” is meant to be a combination of the first two and closest to the style found in the PS4 game. While “arcade” is supposedly assisted, it appears that “realistic” will be the mode that is most likely to wow players of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Clearly, there is quite some excitement building about the game, which has a tough act to follow.
