Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will likely push the PlayStation 5 to its limits but don't expect it before Holiday 2021

Marvel’s Spider-Man was a huge hit for Insomniac Games and Sony when it came out in 2018. The PlayStation 4 title garnered very positive reviews and sold in excess of 13.2 million copies. Barely a year later, Sony went ahead and acquired Insomniac, which also created Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank. With the release of the PlayStation 5 looming over the gaming world, there will be high expectations for a Spider-Man sequel, and a recent leak has certainly offered a lot of positive-sounding details…apart from the release date.

According to a Reddit post by u/v17447377, who claims to have a source “close to Insomniac Games”, work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 apparently includes gameplay that has a surprising inspiration – from Diablo. It appears the game will feature random crime generation similar to the dungeon creation procedures found in Diablo. The variable nature of this part of the game should enhance gameplay and increase the replay value. Along with that, there is mention of work being carried out on the game engine and that photogrammetry will be one of the technologies the developers will utilize. This may be one of the aspects of the game that helps push the PS5 to its limits and offers players maximum enjoyment.

Of course, the PS5 has already proved its technical superiority over the PS4 Pro in a well-known comparison clip that involved a swing-through of Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, the next-gen console’s greater capabilities means that Insomniac has been able to expand the game’s world, so Spidey isn’t just restricted to Manhattan this time – he can now explore Brooklyn and Queens too, although the winter setting may require some Spider-Man thermals. Peter Parker and Miles Morales star again, with familiar faces such as Eddie Brock, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, Aaron Davis, and Ben Urich turning up.

As for the story, Oscorp will be involved as will the controversial theme of cloning. The leak also states that gamers could end up running into despicable villains such as the Green Goblin, Venom, the Lizard, Cardiac, Carnage, and Mysterio.
