PlayStation 5 trademark registration adds fuel to the fire that a big reveal is incoming
A filing for the trademark “PS5” has been spotted by LetsGoDigital. The application was made with the Swiss IGE IPI on January 27 by a representative for Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. The PS5 is listed under the section Goods and Services 9, which includes consoles. Some have taken this recent activity as a sign that the PlayStation 5 reveal is close to happening.
Previously, February 5 had been a popular choice for those speculating at when the PlayStation 5 was finally going to be officially shown off to an eager public. However, an investigative post on Reddit by u/PennyOhms has thrown up another suggestion for a PS5 reveal. It appears the Sony Hall in Manhattan, NY is closed for a couple of private events in February. The screenshot of the venue's show calendar on Reddit shows that Saturday, February 29 is one of those dates, while Monday, February 24 is now also advertised as closed for a private event. It's arguable that one of these dates could be reserved for a proper look at the next-gen console.
Interestingly enough, as mentioned above there was talk about the PlayStation 5 reveal taking place at the same location but on February 5. At the time of writing, the Sony Hall’s event calendar has nothing listed for that particular date, not even a private event. But the capacity of the Sony Hall could be a limiting factor for a grand PS5 unveiling, so even the presumed location has to be taken with a pinch of salt for the time being. It seems we won’t know anything for certain until Sony finally sends out press invitations.
