DFC analysis: The PlayStation 5 will outsell the Xbox Series X
Boasting "over 100 years of combined experience in the game and digital media industry", DFC Intelligence has published its forecasts for the ninth generation of games consoles. In short, while people will have to pick a side in the latest round of console wars later this year, DFC analysts have already crowned the PlayStation 5 the winner.
DFC Intelligence has often been on the right side of history when making console sales forecasts. It is worth keeping in mind that the company has done so this time with Sony only having confirmed technical details about the PlayStation 5. Microsoft has, by contrast, released far more information about the Xbox Series X. Hence, DFC has potentially gauged sales using imperfect information.
Citing software availability, brand recognition and global sales networks, DFC believes that the PlayStation 5 will outsell the Xbox Series X over their respective lifetimes. The company points that out Sony also has significant advantages in Japan, a market in which Microsoft apparently sells fewer than fifty Xbox One consoles per week.
It is not all bad news for Microsoft, though. DFC expects the Xbox Series X to achieve greater market share than the Xbox One series did. Expectedly, the volume and quality of Xbox Series X exclusives will be a big driver behind the market share percentage that the console can attain globally.
While there has been plenty of talk about the specifications of both consoles lately, affordability will remain a key factor behind sales of either console. As we have noted previously, people have already voiced such an opinion in their droves. So, Sony could still blow its perceived advantages with the PlayStation 5 if Microsoft undercuts the company on price.
