PlayStation 5 news: Danish retailer offers eye-watering price and release date; nostalgic fan concept; poll shows PS5 is still the most wanted
A retailer based in Denmark has created a placeholder on its website for the PlayStation 5 console while also adding a price and release date for the device. Fans better hope that the suggested price published by føtex is simply meaningless, as it is quite a bit higher than what many expect the PS5 to cost. The price mentioned is 6,989 Danish krone, which is roughly the equivalent to US$1,043/€935/£838. While the price is certainly way off the mark, the suggested delivery date could be more accurate: December 1, 2020.
A redditor called u/ruddi2020 has posted some concept renders of the PS5 that will likely have a nostalgic effect on gamers. The images (see teaser and below) are reminiscent of both the original PlayStation and the Sega Dreamcast. The poster has created the console in two different colors and has even taken the time to address the all-important cooling solution. The PS5 concept features four USB Type-C ports and incorporates soft-click hardware buttons.
IGN has posted a fan poll in a video clip on its YouTube channel that shows there is still plenty of love for the PS5 regardless of the perceived inferior hardware compared to the Xbox Series X. According to the poll, 43.3% of respondents agreed with “the PS5 will be mine” while 25.7% went with “all in on Series X”. A lucky 12.8% said they would be “buying them all”. It seems it will take more than fewer compute units and lower TFLOPS to put PS5 fans off purchasing their next-gen console of choice.
