Disappointment for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X fans: Cyberpunk 2077 will not be a next-generation launch title
Cyberpunk 2077 will not be a next-generation launch title, CD Projekt Red has confirmed. Due to be launched on September 17 for PC, PS4, Stadia and Xbox One, there had been speculation that Cyberpunk 2077 would also be one of the first titles to land on the Xbox Series X and PS5.
An upgraded version for PS5 and Xbox Series X is in development, CD Projekt SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski has confirmed. However, Nowakowski would not comment on when either version would be released.
Quoted by VGC from a Q&A session, Nowakowski stated that CD Projekt that will issue a patch for the Xbox One version to ensure compatibility with the Xbox Series X. Additionally, anyone who has purchased the Xbox One version will receive a complimentary upgrade to the Xbox Series X version when that is released.
The same may not apply to the PS4 version, though. Nowakowski has also been quoted as saying that "we really can’t confirm or deny anything" when it comes to questions about backwards compatibility or upgrades for people who purchase the PS4 version. Nonetheless, Nowakowski reiterated that CD Projekt remains "comfortable" in delivering Cyberpunk 2077 for its revised launch date.
