Intel's Industrial Summit 2020 revealed that the OEM now believes that data and its processing will migrate to the edge in the future. To that end, it has announced 11th-gen Core processor versions aimed at Internet of Things (IoT) applications. They are extra-low-power variants of Tiger Lake CPUs with features such as Deep Learning Boost, although they retain Thunderbolt 4 and PCIe 4.0 support.

AMD has announced the expansion of its Chromebook-focused lineup to include 14 nm Zen-based Athlon and 12 nm Zen+-based Ryzen processors. The new APUs for Chromebooks allow Chrome OS users to run more capable apps natively or via Linux. TSMC surprised everyone when it announced that its 3 nm nodes will not use GAAFET transistors. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese foundries decided to speed up the release of the 2 nm nodes, which will finally adopt the GAAFET design. Still, the N2 nodes will only become operational by mid-2023, allowing Samsung to get the edge with its 3 nm GAAFET nodes by late 2021. Google's next smartphones will not be released until October 15 according to a UK retailer listing, despite their announcement on September 30. HP has launched AMD Renoir-powered variants of the HP Pavilion 15. It can be configured with an AMD Ryzen 5 4500U or a Ryzen 7 4700U CPU.
