Some of the latest Geekbench 4 and 5 results for the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H APU have been shared online, and once more they offer the sort of high multi-core scores you would expect from a Ryzen 4000 processor. However, the Renoir part in the Asus TUF Gaming laptop also kept up with the single-core scores for the i9-9980HK found in the Dell Precision 5540 and Apple MacBook Pro 15 2019.

Sony’s claim that high clockspeeds offset its meagre shader allocation on the PlayStation 5 doesn’t hold water when Navi overclocking results are factored in. Due to non-linear performance/clock scaling, the likely performance deficit between the two consoles is in the 25-30 percent range, which may have a major impact on 4K performance.

Ice Lake may well still be finding its way into laptops, but more examples of the Tiger Lake architecture are appearing online. One such benchmark listing has a 10 nm Tiger Lake chip challenging the GPU performance of the Ryzen 7 4800U, one of AMD's premier Renoir APUs.

An AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS has been spotted being put through its paces on Geekbench 5. The Ryzen 4000 APU was part of an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop. The 8-core Renoir chip amassed decent single-core scores of 1,135 and 1,164 points and multi-core scores of 7,444 and 7,544 points in two separate tests. This puts it on a very fair footing with the Coffee Lake Intel Core i9-9880H.

Microsoft recently unveiled DirectX 12 Ultimate, a rebrand for the DirectX 12_2 featureset. Graphics cards that are DirectX 12 Ultimate Compatible will have feature parity with the next-gen Xbox Series X.

Annoyingly, Vari-Bright is enabled by default to automatically limit the maximum brightness of the screen when not on AC power. Though it's supposed to be a power-saving feature, it can also make outdoor visibility more difficult for the end-user.

Sony's Mark Cerny spoke in detail about the PlayStation 5's GPU, which is a custom designed AMD RDNA 2 chip. The PS5's GPU has a lower CU count than the Xbox Series X but has higher clocks and boosts differently compared to PCs and the Xbox. Laptops with Nvidia or Intel hardware need not apply even though they make up the vast majority of the gaming laptops in the market.

Intel recently stated that it would be “narrowing” its Cooper Lake family of Xeon server CPUs. The move comes in the context of rapid AMD gains in the segment and the impending arrival of EPYC Milan.

It looks like Microsoft is already planning to add the newly launched Ryzen 4000 APUs to the Surface lineup, and this time around, we could potentially see 15-inch as well as 13.5-inch all-AMD models. The 13.5-inch models may get Ryzen 5 4500U / 7 4700U + RX 5300M configurations, while the 15-inch variants may end up powered by more powerful Ryzen R5 4600U / 7 4800U + RX 5500M/ RX 5600M combos.

In Geekbench 5, the Renoir chip scored 1,116 points (single core) and 6,337 points (multi core), putting it ahead of the older Ryzen 7 3750H and i7-8850H.

A new laptop from Dell’s G Series has been revealed, and it is packed with the latest technology from AMD. A Time Spy Graphics Score for a Ryzen 7 4800HS APU has shown just how much AMD has managed to improve the iGPU performance for the Renoir generation of processors. The new Ryzen 4000 mobile chip managed to score 1,089 points, which placed it ahead of Picasso APUs like the Ryzen 7 3780U and Ryzen 7 3700U even though they have more compute units (CUs).

The A9-9820 APU with Radeon R7 350 iGPU is probably not based on the Zen architecture since it only supports DDR3 memory. The test results provided by Chuwi speak for themselves, although the OEM claims that there should be enough processing power for current AAA games and 4K video editing.

A hexa-core AMD Ryzen 5 4500U APU has managed to achieve a higher score on Geekbench 4’s multi-core test than the quad-core Ice Lake Intel Core i7-1065G7. Although the latter Intel SoC is streets ahead of the Ryzen 4000 processor with its single-core score, its multi-core result of 18,772 points is not quite enough to fend off the Ryzen 5 4500U on 18,819 points.

A possible AMD Ryzen 4000 Renoir desktop APU has been spotted on the 3DMark 11 benchmark. The processor, which was in a system that utilized a yet to be released Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro motherboard, managed an overall score of 5,659 points. This left it lagging behind laptop APUs such as the Ryzen 7 4700U and the Ryzen 7 4800U.

A number of Asus TUF Gaming laptops and Asus ROG devices powered by Renoir chips from AMD's Ryzen 4000 series have been spotted on Newegg Canada and the Canadian retailer Memory Express. However, PS5 fans have been remaining optimistic about their choice of next-gen console, with many hoping for 13 teraflops of GPU performance.
