The Geekbench scores place Intel's gen 9 CPUs ahead of the AMD competition, but the success of these chips will also depend on the launch prices. AMD's Ryzen 2 CPUs are selling like hot cakes due to a very good price/performance ratio, and Intel needs to adjust the gen 9 prices accordingly if it wants to rebalance the market share.

AMD looks prepared to update each of its mainstream and HEDT CPU lineups annually, and the third gen processors coming next year will most likely need a new chipset, since the red team is making the jump to 10 nm and even 7 nm. The upcoming Threadrippers are rumored to be accompanied by a new X499 chipset, which should bring support for PCIe 4.0 and DDR5.

El Chapuzas Informatico has leaked what they claim is the Cinebench score of a Ryzen 7 2800X. However, several inconsistencies within the screenshot of the score and the idea of a 10 core Ryzen CPU reveal that this leak is almost certainly a fake.

AMD has announced the new entry-level Athlon 200GE series CPUs to take on Intel's Pentium Gold offerings. AMD is pegging the Athlon 200GE series as a CPU for everyday PCs and comes with integrated Radeon Vega graphics with 3 CUs and can fit easily into any Socket AM4 motherboard. Pricing starts from US$55 for the Athlon 200GE with details for the Athlon 220GE and 240GE to be announced soon.

Mentioned in the latest Linux patches, AMD XGMI interconnect is rumored to offer bandwidths of up to 64 GB/s on the current PCIe 3.0 standard, possibly even higher on the upcoming PCIe 4.0. This should compete with Nvidia's NVLink, which currently offers bandwidths of up to 200 GB/s on PCIe 3.0 and could exceed 300 GB/s next year with the jump to the PCIe 4.0 standard.

Using the 10 nm manufacturing process, Samsung managed to pack 256 GB or RAM on a single stick, proving that DDR can offer a viable alternative to Intel's Optane and 3DXPoint technology. The 256 GB RAM modules are only available for servers at present, while desktop and laptop PCs get 32 GB per module, but it will not be long before these capacities hit the mainstream markets.

Videos are easier to watch in a darkened room without the inevitable white background on which previews and other objects are shown in Android's YouTube app. This is now a thing of the past, however, as dark mode for the app on non-Apple phones is finally widely available.

According to AMD, third-party analytical tools may not be giving correct information on Raven Ridge SoCs like the Ryzen 5 2500U or Ryzen 7 2700U. It's unknown if popular tools like HWInfo or AIDA64 would ever be updated to fully support Raven Ridge SoCs. For now, AMD μProf is the only reliable method.

Google is celebrating its 10th anniversary of Chrome with the release of a considerable update (Chrome 69) for the browser. It features a substantial UI redesign, as well as a new password generator. This version will be available for mobile and desktop.

Battlefield V developer EA DICE revealed to Tom's Hardware that it had toned down some of the ray tracing effects in the game to enable more performance. DICE said that it is looking to hit a comfortable 60 fps on 1080p with ray tracing enabled. The game seems to be optimized for multi-core CPUs but does not support multi-GPU configurations.

The new NVIDIA Turing architecture may be coming to laptops soon. Listings on the GPU maker's website and on GitHub specifies a "GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile" with device ID and model number included. It suggests that this GPU will be available for non-desktop boards soon.

The Intel Core i7-9700K may seem comparable to the i7-8700K in many ways. However, it can be boosted up to 4.9GHz (albeit on one core only). The i7-9700K has also recently exhibited the ability to OC up to 5.3GHz on air and beat the i7-8700K on Geekbench.

Synthetic benchmarks might not offer definitive proof on how the new flagship GPUs from Nvidia perform versus the previous gen, and the drivers used are most likely not final either, so performance could slightly improve upon release. Additionally, since the official Turing drivers are not yet publicly available, these results seem to be provided by an Nvidia or AIB partner employee.

Asked about the raw gaming performance in current games, Nvidia’s Director of Technical Marketing Tom Petersen stated that the new RTX 2000 GPUs are between 35% and 45% faster than the Pascal cards. However, upcoming games may perform better if they are specifically coded to take advantage of the new Turing Tensor cores that facilitate the DLSS tech.

At IFA 2018, Acer unveiled the updated Predator Orion line of gaming desktops. The Predator Orion comes in three main variants and offers CPU options up to the Intel Core i9 7980XE Extreme Edition and AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, and GPU options up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. These systems utilize Acer's IceTunnel 2.0 liquid cooling for keeping temperatures under check.

Having stayed at the company for over 3 years, Jim Anderson has left AMD and will be replaced by Saeid Moshkelani. Anderson entered AMD before the Ryzen launch in order to help with client sales, and since opportunities to advance in AMD were scant, has decided to depart and become CEO at Lattice Semiconductor.

It is not clear if these results are provided by an RTX 2080 or 2070 card. Haters would quickly point out that if this is the RTX 2080, the price Nvidia is asking for the card is clearly unjustified. On the other hand, if this card is the RTX 2070, the high prices are justified. If anything, this leak might have stirred the controversies even more.

After almost twoo weeks from the official launch of the Threadripper 2000-series, AMD finally decided to slash the prices for the first generation Threadrippers. The best deal of all three processors seems to be the 1920X, which got a 50% reduction, while the 1920X gets a ~40% lower MSRP, with the high-end 1950X getting only a 25% price drop.

Samsung announced the new CJ79 monitor at IFA 2018 yesterday. The CJ79 is a 34-inch ultra-wide QLED monitor with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. The display features a VA panel that offers a 3000:1 contrast ratio and comes with support for AMD FreeSync.

The next version of 3DMark, a popular graphics benchmarking tool, will feature support for NVIDIA's RTX tech allowing adopters to test the ray tracing abilities of their cards. Nvidia is betting big on ray tracing technology while charging users an arm and a leg for the latest GeForce RTX GPUs. A few new quiet laptop releases round up a week that was dominated by Nvidia announcements and previews.

The upcoming Intel Core i7-9700K was recently spotted running on an ASRock Z370 Professional Gaming i7 motherboard and was found to have been overclocked to 5.5 GHz on water cooling. The overclocked Core i7-9700K showed impressive Cinebench performance scoring 250 in single and 1827 in multi-core tests.

Just like AMD, things went unexpectedly well for Nvidia in the second quarter of this year, even though the crypto market decline was heralding a gloomy period. Nvidia managed to pull this off by forcing some AIB partners into overstocking Pascal GPUs, and the green team is doing this again with 10 major partners that were forced to contract shipments for the RTX 2000-series in order to be the first to deliver the new cards.

European online retailer CentralPoint has listed the Intel Core i9-9900K and the Core i7-9700K for pre-order. CentralPoint expects the stocks to arrive as early as September 7 and has listed the i9-9900K for €689 + VAT and the i7-9700K for €539 + VAT. Given that we will not know the MSRP of these chips before September, the listed prices are to be taken with a grain of salt.

However, a managing director for a UK IT and networking company thinks an emerging alternative is about to make these VPNs obsolete.

CEO Jensen Huang somehow found it adequate to mention nothing about the DLSS tech that would boost the performance of the new RTX 20xx cards in his official announcement. If we are to believe Nvidia's graphs, the GTX 2080 is up to 50% faster than the GTX 1080 on its own, but the DLSS tech also adds up to 60% more fps when activate, leading to more than 100% performance gains in some cases.

NVIDIA's next generation GeForce RTX cards come with support for Ansel RTX, which enables creating high quality in-game ray traced photos. Invoking Ansel RTX in a supported game increases the level of ray tracing — to a level which is not possible in real time — to create a high quality in-game photo. Games that do not yet support the Ansel SDK can still use some of the platform features to create Super Resolution in-game shots.

Games supporting NVIDIA's RTX technologies are assumed to have some form of ray tracing enabled but NVIDIA has clarified that RTX support not only refers to ray tracing but also to Deep Learning Super Sampling as well. NVIDIA has also released a list of games that support ray tracing and DLSS.

Even though the ray tracing technology is adding a whole new dimension of realism to some soon-to-be-released games, everybody is wondering if the latest RTX 2000-series flagships are indeed worth the money. Initial reviews claim that the cards are clearly breaking records in current games at 4K, but the ray tracing experience is not that impressive as far as fps counts are concerned.

Nvidia announced the RTX 2000-series and the market reacted immediately with substantial price cuts for the Pascal flagships. The new XPC P20U from Shuttle is an all-in-one PC barebones unit with fanless design and water/dust-proofing. A few outlets managed to run a demo of the Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and the initial impressions seem to be a bit dampening with ray tracing turned on. The game was shown to hover in the 30 fps range in 1080p and struggled to reach 60 fps. A demo without ray tracing was not shown but it should understandably result in a huge performance difference.

Asus has announced the ROG Strix, Dual, and Turbo cards based on the just launched NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti GPUs. These cards are now available for pre-order on major e-tail sites with prices starting from US$839 for the Dual RTX 2080 and going up to US$1,239 for the Dual RTX 2080 Ti.

The Turing-powered RTX 2000-series gaming GPUs will come with most of the features integrated in the RTX Quadro professional cards, but at a fraction of the price. For now, Nvidia unveiled only three models - the RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti; however, there are rumors of possible GTX 2060 and 2050 cards that could be launched in October.

In the run up to the release, we've been seeing photos of various partner cards pop up on the web. While we've already reported on what PNY has in store, here's a look at offerings from Palit, MSI, Zotac, EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte, and of course from NVIDIA itself.

The new monster processor from AMD might find its way to the list of hardware options available for the Alienware Area-51 desktop gaming PC, but this depends entirely on its level of gaming performance this chip can reach. For now, Alienware and AMD fans should keep their fingers crossed and just wait.

PNY has leaked specs and pricing information for the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti. The RTX 2080 Ti is listed at US$1,000 while the RTX 2080 is at US$800. The listed prices, however, seem to be placeholders and are likely to change once the new GPU becomes official.

The Ti versions for Nvidia's mid-high and high-end GPUs usually arrive around 9 to 12 months after the launch of the original wave, but this time around, it seems like Nvidia is ready to launch the Ti version of the high-end card together with the regular versions. Only one week away from the official announcement of the next gen gaming GPUs powered by the Turing architecture, and the leaked benchmarks are already starting to pop up on the Internet. This time it looks like an alleged RTX 2080 made it in the hands of an overzealous tester who stressed it in Ashes of the Singularity on Crazy 4K settings.

The Threadripper 2990WX was already pushed to 5.4 GHz last week, but it looks like there is room for more overclocking when enough liquid nitrogen is used. Overclocker Ivan Cupa managed to get all 32 cores of the 2990WX model running at an outstanding 6 GHz, but there is no way of telling how much better it performs, as no benchmarks were provided.

Phoronix has done a performance comparison of the AMD Threadripper 2990WX in Windows 10 Pro and Linux and the results show Threadripper numbers significantly lower under Windows 10 Pro than in Linux. In some tests such as 7-Zip Compression, the Threadripper 2990WX posted almost 58% higher scores in Linux compared to Windows 10 Pro implying that Linux is a better OS of choice when testing high core count CPUs.

AMD's Threadripper 2990WX has finally launched, and it is officially the fastest CPU in the world. With 32 cores, 64 threads, and an all core frequency of 3.4 GHz, it's a monstrous CPU. However, the path to 32 cores on the desktop is paved with compromises and some disappointments.

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX GPUs implement Samsung's latest 16 Gigabit GDDR6 memory. The enhanced bandwidth of GDDR6 helps in improved performance and memory efficiency while consuming 35% less power. The Quadro RTX is the first product to implement Samsung's GDDR6 VRAM.

The new BI329 mini PC is Zotac's latest model dedicated to the HTPC and IoT markets. It comes in three variants: a barebones one without RAM and storage, one with 4 GB RAM and 120 GB SSD, and a Windows variant that has 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB M.2 storage plus pre-installed Windows 10 Home. All these variants are powered by Intel's Celeron N4100 quad-core ULV CPU.
