Q4 2018 stocks: AMD on the rise, Nvidia crashes hard

Despite the steep losses in the GPU sector suffered by both AMD and Nvidia, the red team managed to see stock appreciation thanks to the CPU division. Nvidia was not that fortunate and took a hard dive in Q3 and Q4, but things should get better once the RTX 2000 GPUs see more adoption in 2019. Last, but not least, Intel virtually flat-lined throughout the entire 2018 because of the 14 nm CPU shortages.

AMD Ryzen 3000-series desktop processors detailed in potentially massive leak

E-Katalog, a Russian retailer, has put the entire line of Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs (the 'Matisse' series) on its website. These listings may indeed just be placeholders; on the other hand, they contain detailed information on processors such as the Ryzen 9 3800X. It suggests that the new generation has seriously outpaced its predecessor, especially at the higher end.

Successful upgrade. AMD will not be offering us an entirely new GPU series this year. Instead, AMD has launched another Polaris Refresh GPU: the RX 590, produced in a 12-nm process. This enables significantly higher clock rates compared to the RX 580 but only slight improvements in terms of power consumption. Find out whether the Polaris 30 chip is still worth a try in our review.

AMD announces highest-clocked server-grade CPU - the EPYC 7371

The first wave of EPYC 7000 CPUs were able to reach only 3.2 GHz on boost clocks, but with the new EPYC 7371, AMD pushes the envelope up to 3.8 GHz, which is quite high for server-grade processors that don't usually benefit from custom air coolers or water coolers. The EPYC 7371 is aimed at design automation and high-frequency trading tasks, supporting dual-socket setups for improved performance.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U: Zen+ or Zen 2? (Source: Userbenchmark)

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U rears its head in first benchmarks, throws up the Zen+ or Zen 2 conundrum

References to a new AMD APU, the Ryzen 7 3700U, have been spotted online leading to speculation as to whether this could be a Zen+ or a Zen 2 part. The Ryzen 7 3700U sports the same clocks and core counts as the Ryzen 7 2700U and most of the evidence so far suggests that this could be the Zen+ APU as the previous 2000U series were based on Zen.
