There were recent rumors that Sony had been working on new Android-powered tablets that were known as the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5C. However, apparently the Japanese tech giant has now decided to shelve the idea of releasing new tablets onto the market because of the lackluster sales for premium products such as the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact.

Bloomberg informs that sources familiar with Samsung's plans claim that the Note 9 is going to be officially unveiled on August 9. The phablet might not be so different from last year's model after all, but at least it is getting a SoC upgrade, improved battery and even an improved rear dual camera, according to Bloomberg's source.

Asus as also announced a range of peripherals to improve the gaming experience.

A tweet from Asus ROG can be seen as evidence that previous rumors about the planned release of an ROG gaming phone are correct. The tweet shows an unknown phone attacked to a gaming controller, which leaks suggest is equipped with a Snapdragon 845, 8 GB of RAM, and a possible 120 Hz display.

Samsung is finally acknowledging the arrival of the in-display fingerprint sensors with the launch of next year's premium smartphones. The Korean company has closely been working with Qualcomm to deliver what they call the ultrasonic fingerprint recognition, which will be using updated OLEDS that include the Snapdragon Sense ID 3D.

Using the 7 nm manufacturing process, the new ARM Cortex-A76 CPU will bring "laptop-class" performance to handheld devices. Dell could very well join in the Windows 10 on ARM bandwagon alongside new devices Asus, HP, and Lenovo if word on the street is to be believed. Dell was earlier skeptical of Windows 10 on ARM and adopted a wait and watch approach. That could change now and in fact, Dell could be one of the first to realize Microsoft's 'ultimate mobile device' dream.

It looks like Dell could work its magic and release a foldable phone before Microsoft even gets to officially announce the Surface Phone. Dell's codename "Januss" could also be among the first 5G smartphones, since it is said to be powered by Qualcomm's 7 nm Snapdragon 850 SoC. Other features include a USB-C connector and multiple cameras.

Alongside the Mi 8 reveal, Xiaomi also showed off a limited edition Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition features an in-display fingerprint sensor and a transparent back that reveals the innards. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is limited to China as of now and will be available only in defined quantities.

Qualcomm is working on an exclusive SoC for upcoming Windows 10 on ARM devices. Entries for a new Snapdragon chip were found on Geekbench and all clues point it to be a performance-based variant of the Snapdragon 845 adapted for the extra thermal headroom in notebooks and 2-in-1s.

HMD has officially launched the Nokia 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1 smartphones. The Nokia 2.1 and 3.1 are the more affordable of the three and carry Google's Android One branding. The new 5.1 is a slightly more expensive model machined from a single block of aluminum.

Although its high-end variant is also available in black — unlike the XPS 15 9570 laptop — and features an 8th generation Intel Core i7-8705G processor, the XPS 15 9575 convertible only comes with 16 GB of soldered memory, so there is no upgrade option available. Fortunately, Frank Azor has just confirmed that a 32 GB variant should arrive in the last part of the year.

A render of a smartphone currently known as the Motorola One Power has been leaked. The image shows a device with slim bezels, a notch and a dual-camera setup on the rear. The Android One logo can be seen on the back case, whilst the Motorola brand name is visible on the front. No specifications for the phone have been revealed yet.

OnePlus has removed the Always On Display setting in the new OnePlus 6 via a day 1 patch that installs after first boot. While users have been clamoring on the OnePlus Forums for the feature to return, the company replied that the feature had to be removed to save battery.

Official renders of the Motorola Moto Z3 Play have surfaced online. Perhaps even more interestingly, Motorola plans to release a 5G-capable Moto Mod that will upgrade it, and compatible Moto devices, from 4G to 5G cellular connectivity.

Reports have started to surface of customers complaining that their iPhone X rear camera lens covers are cracking, even though they haven't been dropped. Apple uses sapphire crystal for its lens covers which are resistant to scratching, but are more susceptible to cracking under pressure than Corning Gorilla Glass.

Chromebooks could soon get a substantial performance boost, as the Chrome OS developers are planning to support Intel's Kaby Lake-G CPUs that come with the dedicated AMD Radeon RX Vega M GPU. The first Chromebook that would include such specs is codenamed "Kidd" and it was discovered mentioned in the Chromium code commit repository.

It appears the innovative RED Hydrogen One smartphone is to be made available through AT&T and Verizon. Pre-orders for the novel device that sports a holographic screen are no longer being accepted at RED’s website, whereas Verizon is allowing those interested to sign up for updates. AT&T is planning a demo for the RED Hydrogen One in Los Angeles, June 2-3.

The Chinese branch of HMD Global reported that the entire stock of 700,000 Nokia X6 devices pre-sold in just 10 seconds. Another pre-sale is scheduled for May 31 and the stock is expected to be larger. Since the Nokia X6 already proved to be a hit in China, HMD Global now intends to bring it to the Western markets.

The Huawei Y5 Prime (2018) is now listed on Huawei’s website, indicating that it might not be long until it hits store shelves. The older Y5 (2017) released in June of last year, so this timing would match. With 2 GB RAM / 16 GB storage, this is undoubtedly a budget phone, but the inclusion of three card slots (2 SIM and 1 MicroSD) will be highly attractive in some markets.

OnePlus has just unveiled the OnePlus 6 device and hot on its heels comes the Marvel Avengers Limited Edition version. This variant of the new flagship phone is delivered in an Avengers-themed box that even contains an Iron Man-style protective case and a medal. The device will initially be available for the Chinese and Indian markets, priced at 4,199 yuan and 44,999 Indian rupees, respectively.

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the next iPhone SE at the moment with the odds favoring at least one new iPhone SE model to surface this year. HP has announced refreshes to its Envy notebook lineup including the Envy 13, Envy 17, Envy x360 13, and Envy x360 15. Internally, all notebooks receive an upgrade to the Intel 8th generation CPUs with the Envy x360 offering AMD Ryzen with Vega graphics options as well.
