Will Sony's new Bravia TVs be showing PS5 gameplay in 4K or upscaled Full HD? (Image source: Sony - edited)

Updated | PlayStation 5 lumbered with displaying some games in "fake 4K" and possibly struggling with SmartShift setbacks according to PS5 observers

The PlayStation 5 could end up showing some 4K titles in “fake 4K” according to one commentator while another has opined that the next-gen console might be giving developers some headaches because of its AMD SmartShift technology and variable processing frequencies. The PS5 has already been under the microscope lately because of similar concerns.
The "fake 4K" source has admitted to bias.

Lenovo's 13-inch IdeaPad S540-13ARE ultrabook with Renoir-U APUs now available in Europe

The new 13-inchers come with Ryzen 5 4600U or Ryzen 7 4800U APU options and can be equipped with up to 1 TB of NVMe SSD storage. RAM options include 8 or 16 GB DDR4-3200, but the modules are soldered, so there is no upgrade potential. There are two good screen options, yet, on the other hand, port selection is a bit limited, and the ultrabooks will not be available on the American continent.

AMD could be offering hybrid CPUs as well in the near future. (Image Source: Guru3D)

AMD could join ARM and Intel with its own big.LITTLE-esque hybrid CPU design

A patent describing AMD's approaches to a hybrid ISA solution for low power computing has come to light recently. AMD could be taking a cue from ARM's big.LITTLE approach and Intel's hybrid ISA implementation in Lakefield and the upcoming Alder Lake processors. The patent is reportedly still being tweaked upon, but there is no confirmation that this design would indeed make it to market.

A number of Intel Coffee Lake processors have received significant price cuts (Image source: Intel)

Intel’s 9th generation Coffee Lake CPUs get prices slashed by 25 percent, but waiting for Ryzen 4000 Zen 3 might still be worth it

Intel has evidently slashed prices on a range of its 9th generation Coffee Lake CPUs, from the 8-core 16-thread Core i9-9900K down to the hexacore Core i5-9600K. The timing of the price cuts is interesting, since AMD is positioned to release its Zen 3-based Ryzen 4000 processors soon.

Cezanne is still limited to Vega iGPUs, but the CPU side should see significant performance gains. (Image Source: The FPS Review)

Vega 8 iGPU from upcoming AMD Cezanne laptop APU does not impress in latest SiSoft Sandra benchmarks

We already know that AMD's Ryzen 5000 laptop APUs launching next year will still be limited to Vega iGPUs, and the latest SiSoft Sandra benchmarks show that the further refined Vega 8 iGPU is barely faster than the current implementations. It seems like AMD is only focused on improving the CPU performance.

Manufacturing costs could result in the PlayStation 5 being less competitive at launch (Image source: Extremtech)

Tipster claims that the PlayStation 5 will cost more and perform worse than the Xbox Series X: Resident Evil Village could run at a mere 1080p/60

According to tipster Dusk Golem, the PlayStation 5 might end up facing the Xbox One’s launch conundrum: running slower and costing more than the competition. This could be due to Microsoft’s greater ability to absorb manufacturing costs. If the PlayStation 5 does indeed cost more, platform exclusives could become even more relevant differentiators.

More evidence points towards AMD's RDNA2 Big Navi superiority over Nvidia's high-end Ampere RTX 3000 GPUs

Fresh reports suggest that Nvidia will only launch 8 nm GPUs this year, with a possible 7 nm "Super" refresh scheduled for 1H 2021. This could allow AMD to steal the GPU performance crown with 7 nm Big Navi GPUs this year and jump to 5 nm next year.
