Tesla Model 2 may be 37% cheaper to do than Model 3 as it is 15% shorter and with 25% smaller battery

The average Tesla Model 2 selling price is expected to be US$27,000 before subsidies, say industry analysts. The length of a Model 2 could be 4m, or 15% shorter than the current Model 3, too. To arrive at its projected US$21,600 production price, it could also be 30% lighter and with 25% smaller battery, which would result in a similar range on a charge as the Model 3.

After cutting its price by the whopping 31% with federal subsidies, Tesla is now slowly raising the Model Y LR tag back up. The Treasury Department reclassified the 5-seater as an SUV for tax credit purposes on Friday, and Tesla immediately raised its price by another US$1500.

5-seat Tesla Model Y now eligible for the new EV tax credit even for those who already bought

The Model Y 5-seater, as well as the Mustang Mach-E, Cadillac Lyriq, or Volkswagen ID.4, got reclassified as SUVs for the purpose of receiving the full US$7,500 new EV subsidy amount by the federal government. The Treasury said it has switched to the EPA's Fuel Economy Labeling standard in determining which models qualify for the tax credit.
