Volkswagen ID.2 X: Small electric SUV based on VW's Tesla Model 2 competitor shows up in a gorgeous render image
With the VW ID. 2all, Germany's largest automaker Volkswagen has recently unveiled the basic design and anticipated specifications of its upcoming electric hatchback, which is expected to rival the Tesla Model 2 with an affordable starting price of around €25,000 in Europe. However, rumors say that the company is also working on an appealing SUV variant called the VW ID.2 X, which has now appeared in a beautiful rendering.
Once again, the talented graphic designers at Motor1 have provided the best look yet at the VW ID.2 X, which could also debut under the Volkswagen "ID.2 Cross" name. The image in question can be accessed via this link. Unsurprisingly, the SUV version of the ID.2 has a few more inches of ground clearance in comparison to the hatchback counterpart to the Tesla Model 2. It may also feature a redesigned front bumper, while black wheel arches and roof rails should give the crossover a more rugged exterior look.
Supposedly, the Volkswagen ID.2 X will be built on the same platform called “MEB entry”, but its range will probably be somewhat shorter than the standard model’s 280 miles due to aerodynamically less efficient SUV shape. On a more positive note, the crossover’s top trim may sport an additional electric motor in the rear, but this alleged all-wheel drive EV would almost certainly exceed the €30,000 price mark. Unfortunately, it remains unclear if and when the SUV variant of the VW ID.2 will hit the European market, but the base version of the Tesla Model 2 competitor is scheduled for a launch in 2025.
