Rumour has it that the Pixel 4a (5G) will have the same screen as the Pixel 4a. Google is apparently swapping out the Snapdragon 730 for a Snapdragon 765G though, which will include a 5G modem. The Pixel 4a (5G) will start at US$499 and is expected to launch in October.

Rumour has it that the Pixel 5 will not be the successor to the compact Pixel 4. Instead, the device will be closer to the size of the Pixel 4 XL, which points towards it having a 6.67-inch and 120 Hz display. A US$699 starting price has been suggested too, but Google will only be offering a Snapdragon 765G and a capacitive fingerprint scanner for your money.

The Pixel 4a may have unsurprising specifications, but it is proving popular on websites like Amazon and Best Buy. The device is so popular, in fact, that is currently one of the best-selling smartphones on the two eCommerce platforms in the US. The Pixel 4a retails for US$349.

Barely ten months after the launch of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, Google has now discontinued the two phones. Typically, Google's offerings stay on the market for about eighteen months, so this is something of a surprise.

The release date of the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 may have been revealed by Google France. According to an amended blog post, the two 5G smartphones will be available to pre-order from October 8. The Pixel 4a (5G) will start at US$499, but it and the Pixel 5 will only be available to purchase in nine markets.

An internal Google document has been leaked and ended up in the hands of 9to5Google. Sensationally, it reveals the codenames of forthcoming devices thought to be the Pixel 5a, Pixel 5 and Pixel 6 XL, but also explicitly mentions a Pixel foldable could be here as soon as Q4 2021.

Google has teased that it plans to launch the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 soon, and rumour has it that one of them will be featuring some impressive display technology. According to one respected informer, either the Pixel 4a 5G or Pixel 5 will have a 6.67-inch display that is capable of reaching 120 Hz. The devices will apparently launch within the next 2 months, too.

Today (August 3, 2020) Google has ushered the Pixel 4a onto its Store website as its newest phone. This 5.81-inch FHD+ display device has just 1 SKU, although its RAM/storage specs are improved compared to its predecessor's starter variant. It is available as an unlocked device for under US$400, or through Verizon on a 24-month contract.

A new leak has given us a better idea of what the Google Pixel 5 may look like. The square camera module from the Pixel 4 makes a re-appearance, as well as the rear capacitive fingerprint reader from the Pixel 3. There also appears to be only two rear cameras.

An iPhone 11 Pro user has reported that their phone displays a green tint under certain conditions. It's currently unknown if this is a software or hardware issue. The Pixel 5 is expected to be powered by a sub-premium chipset, which a host of rumors claim could be the Snapdragon 765G. How does a sub-premium SoC compare to the two-year-old Snapdragon 845 on the Pixel 3? Well, it's a mixed bag.

The Google Pixel 4 had a number of significant flaws but the most fatal of all was pricing, as the phones didn't offer value analogous to their launch prices. Things could change with the Pixel 5, however, as a new report claims Google will focus on the essentials with its upcoming flagship.

The Google Pixel 4a was initially expected to start at US$399, but a new leak claims the phone could be US$50 cheaper. This would make it cheaper than the iPhone SE, the biggest challenger to the Pixel 4a in the mid-range segment.

An earlier leak asserted that Google had chosen May 22, 2020 as the launch date for its new mid-ranger, the Pixel 4a. The Cuban vlogger TecnoLike Plus has already purported to have reviewed the Google Pixel 4a's cameras well ahead of its launch. Now, the same source has leaked this phone's relevant specs in more detail. It seems the phone has the same Sony IMX shooters as some older Pixels on its front and back.

The Google Pixel 4a is billed to launch later this month. The phone is expected to edge the competition with its camera performance, and one would envisage it to show an overwhelming dominance if pitted against a Redmi Note 7. Reality, however, is often disappointing.

With Google I/O 2020 canceled entirely, there was some uncertainty around the Google Pixel 4a series' release date. Internal documents sourced from Vodafone Germany indicate that Google's upcoming Pixel 4a will hit the shelves on May 22nd. General availability could vary a little, depending on your location.

Today, (April 27, 2020) a new app for Google's Pixel Buds 2 went live on the Play Store. It was even more unexpectedly followed by the TWS earphones themselves on the Mountain View giant's store. They support OEM-specific features such as Instant Translation, Assistant integration and Adaptive Sound.

With its regular software updates, Google not only brings the Android security patches to its smartphones, but their functionality is also expanded. This keeps even older devices interesting for a longer period of time.
