NVIDIA NVS 3100M vs NVIDIA Quadro M1000M vs NVIDIA Quadro M2200
NVIDIA NVS 3100M
► remove from comparisonThe Nvidia NVS 3100M or Nvidia Quadro NVS 3100M is a business graphics card that is based on the GT218 core (e.g. GeForce G210M / 310M) but with drivers that are optimized for stability and compatibility in business applications).
Therefore, it is an entry level graphics card with low 3D performance that should be sufficient for low end games and demanding games in very low detail settings and resolutions. For example the old FEAR ran on a G210M in medium to high details fluently. Still, because of the "business drivers" and the slightly lower clock rate, the gaming performance of the NVS3100M may be worse.
The NVS 3100M supports PureVideo HD (with Video Processor VP4) to decode HD videos in the formats H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP using the GPU. This helps reducing the CPU load and should lead to higher battery runtimes when viewing HD videos.
The chip should also support CUDA and DirectX Compute to access the computing power of the graphics card for general tasks (like encoding a video).
The power consumption of approx. 14 Watt (TDP of G210M) is relatively high for a business notebook, but compared to integrated graphic cards, the NVS 3100M should still provide more 3D performance.
NVIDIA Quadro M1000M
► remove from comparison
The 28nm NVIDIA Quadro M1000M is a mid-range DirectX 12 (FL 11_0) and OpenGL 4.5-compatible graphics card for mobile workstations. It is a 1st generation Maxwell-based GPU built on the GM107 architecture with 512 of the 640 shader cores activated. Therefore, the GPU is not similar to any current consumer card. The Geforce GTX 950M, for example, uses the full 640 shader cores. The Quadro M1000M is built for the Intel Skylake generation as the successor to the Kepler-based Quadro K1100M. The M1000M typically comes with 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM clocked at 1250 MHz (5000 MHz effective at 80 GB/s compared to 44.8 GB/s on the K1100M).
The Quadro series offers certified drivers that are optimized for stability and performance in professional applications like CAD or DCC. OpenGL performance, for example, should be significantly better compared to GeForce graphics cards of similar specifications.
Performance
As the exact clock speed of the M1000M is still not known, we can only speculate on the performance of the card. However, it is a lower mid-range model from the mobile Quadro line in 2015. It should be slower than the GTX 950M in 3D gaming due to the lower shader count, but should easily outperform the old Quadro K1100M.
Using CUDA (Compute Capability 5.0) or OpenCL 1.2, the cores of the Quadro M1000M can be used for general calculations.
Power Consumption
The power consumption of the Quadro M1000M is rated for a 40 Watt TGP including the board and memory components, which is 5 Watt lower than the K1100M. Therefore, the card is suited for 15-inch notebooks and greater.
NVIDIA Quadro M2200
► remove from comparison
The Nvidia Quadro M2200 is a mid-range DirectX 12 (FL 12_1) and OpenGL 4.5-compatible graphics card for mobile workstations. It is a Maxwell-based GPU built most likely on the GM206 chip with 1024 shader cores. Therefore, the GPU is similar to the consumer Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M (second generation). The Quadro M2200M is built for the Intel Kaby Lake generation.
The Quadro series offers certified drivers that are optimized for stability and performance in professional applications like CAD or DCC. OpenGL performance, for example, should be significantly better compared to GeForce graphics cards of similar specifications.
Performance
The maximum core clock of the Quadro M2200 is 1038 MHz. The performance is between the old Quadro M2000M and Quadro M3000M, but generally closer to the latter (sometimes even on par). It is not surprising that the gaming performance is comparable to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M (Ti) and it is just behind the new GeForce GTX 1050 (Pascal).
Using CUDA (Compute Capability 5.0) or OpenCL 1.2, the cores of the Quadro M2200 can be used for general calculations.
Power Consumption
The power consumption of the Quadro M2200 is rated at a TGP of 55 Watt (39.1 Watt TDP) – similar to the previous Quadro M2000M – and therefore best suited for 15-inch laptops and up.
