The best-rated laptops in spring 2024 - 69 reviewed laptops compared
Every month, we review numerous laptops of all classes following our extensive, standardized testing program. Here you will find a comparison of our best-rated laptops and links to current offers. Our extensive, individual reviews are linked and provide additional information, detailed measurements and benchmarks to enable the best possible purchase decision.
To help you quickly classify them, the following list of top laptops has been given the categories "Work, Create, Play and Travel". These correspond to each model's area of application although, in practice, the possible application areas are, of course, much broader. The linked, individual reviews also provide support here.
Most of the top lists from last winter and fall are still up to date and many devices are still available:
Our review winners: These are currently the best laptops
The Asus Zephyrus G14 2024 has been at the top of our charts in the past few months. High-end hardware in a compact, 14-inch case gets both gamers' and creators' pulses racing. The Asus G14 can be had for around $1,249 on Amazon.
Second place goes to the Apple MacBook Air 13 with its M3 processor. More than anything, the new chip brings better performance, familiar qualities such as long battery life, a robust case and, thanks to the lack of any fans, constantly silent operation making the Air 13 particularly ideal for mobile and predominantly office use. The Apple Macbook Air 13 M3 can be found on Amazon for around $919.
The G14's sister model, the Asus Zephyrus G16 2024, has similar qualities but offers considerably greater screen surface area thanks to its 240 Hz, 16-inch OLED display with a low overall weight of just 1.8 kilograms. The laptop is available in various specs with prices starting at around $1,349 for the Zephyrus G16 with an RTX 4060 on Amazon.
Sibling duels at the top of the pack: The MacBook Air 15 M3 is aimed at Apple customers who are on the hunt for a laptop with a big display, good mobility and the familiar MacBook-chic. At 1.5 kilograms, the Air 15 can certainly be described as mobile and, in tests, its battery life of 16-18 hours makes many Windows competitors green with envy. On Amazon, you can currently find the MacBook Air 15 M3 for around $1,479.
Back in the day, HP introduced its Spectre series as a premium line above the Pavilion laptops. Both the current HP Spectre x360 14 and its bigger brother, the Spectre x360 16, impressed us during testing, earning them both an excellent overall score of 91%. The 2-in-1 laptops enable many application scenarios thanks to their 360-degree hinge, both have a premium OLED display and, with the help of the new Intel Ultra processors and their powerful integrated graphics chip, they can handle a wide range of tasks - especially when it comes to creative areas. The HP Spectre x360 14 can be purchased on Amazon starting at around $1,249, with the bigger Spectre x360 16 coming in at around $1,800, also on Amazon. Optionally, the Spectre x360 16 can also be specced with an RTX 4050 GPU.
At the beginning of the year, Razer also delivered a new range of laptops, all of which, of course, we reviewed. The highest gaming rating was bagged by the current Razer Blade 16 2024. Reviewed in its high-end specification with an RTX 4090 and 240 Hz OLED display, the stylish gaming machine's credentials are beyond almost any doubt. Prices for the Blade 16 2024 start at around $3,047 (Amazon) and can go as high as the 5k mark with maxed-out configurations.
For a few years, Lenovo's business flagship has been the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, currently in its 12th generation (G12). In its newest form, Lenovo has integrated current Intel Ultra processors as well as a 120 Hz OLED display, making the Carbon superior to its previous generation, both in terms of performance and display quality. The X1 Carbon continues to be an excellent choice for frequent mobile users with a focus on office tasks. Prices for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G12 start at around $2,079 on Amazon.
Also from Lenovo, albeit in a completely different segment, we have the Legion 7 16. The focus on gaming is already clear from the name with Intel i9 and Geforce RTX 4070 graphics removing any remaining doubts. For its Legion 7i 16, Lenovo has a current asking price of around $1,785.
The Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 achieved a very strong overall review score of 91%. Compared to its predecessor, the current Yoga 9 2-in-1 has improved, especially in terms of performance and is simultaneously lighter and more compact. The high performance reserves, versatile display and excellent mobility make for an attractive overall package. Amazon is currently listing the versatile Yoga 9i for around $1,339.
With its Blade 18 2024, Razer wants to mix it in top-level gaming spheres: With this in mind, an 18-inch, 300 Hz, mini-LED display, Intel Core i9 14900HX processor and an Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090 (175W) GPU sound like an adequate package. In tests, the mobile rocket impressed but, when it comes to the price, you'll have to have deep pockets: Prices start at around $3,898 (Amazon), with the top variant smashing the $5,000 mark.
With its new Galaxy Book4 models, Samsung has made its return to the laptop market loud and clear. The Book4 Ultra is the most powerful model and has, in addition to a current Intel Ultra 7 CPU, also a dedicated RTX 4070 graphics card. This means the Book 4 Ultra can be used as a multimedia allrounder, both for creative tasks as well as gaming. However, the laptop isn't cheap: The Book4 Ultra costs around $2,999 on Samsung's online store.
The Alienware m16 R2 is, without a doubt, a genuine gaming laptop. Although the laptop doesn't quite hit the upper-class gaming heights in terms of specification options, the m16 is still a good solution for gaming and creative-based tasks. Dell is currently listing the m16 R2 with an RTX 4060 for around $1,499, with the RTX 4070 variant coming in at around $1,899.
Lenovo's ThinkPad P series is aimed at professional users with high performance demands. The P16 G2 review model offers a fast 165 Hz display, a 13th gen Intel i7 CPU and an RTX 2000 GPU, which helped it achieve a very good overall score (90%). The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 G2 is available in numerous different configurations. Our review spec is listed at around $2,249 on Amazon.
Honor, who is better known on these shores for smartphones, can also do laptops. The MagicBook Pro 16 2024 is a successful example. The multimedia laptop comes with a bright and matte, 16-inch display, a new Intel Ultra CPU and a powerful Geforce RTX 4060 graphics solution. There is one problem when it comes to availability: Currently, the laptop can only be imported.
The Razer Blade 14 2024 offers gaming power in a compact form factor. Here you will find a fast display, a performant Ryzen 9 CPU, and an RTX 4070 graphics card. The well-rounded package comes at a cost: The new Blade 14 (4070) comes in at around $2,099 on Amazon.
Xiaomi not only knows how to design exciting smartphones because, with the RedmiBook Pro 16 2024, the brand also has managed to deliver a good laptop. In our review, the laptop revealed itself to be a good price-performance tip, however, availability is a sticking point. Potential buyers will have to import the laptop - with all the accompanying risks. The device is available for around $1,100 from Trading Shenzen.
The Alienware m18 R2 also made a convincing impression in our tests. The gaming flagship plays in the top league when it comes to specs, performance and price. In its RTX 4090 and Intel i9 14900HX processor variant, the heavyweight barges through the $3,000 mark when ordered directly from Dell.
Lenovo's Legion Pro 7 16 doesn't only manage a very high performance ranking. Equipped with an Intel i9 and RTX 4080 graphics card, the gaming laptop leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to fps and, thanks to the premium display, the device could also present itself as an interesting choice for creators. The price is around $2,499, for example, on Amazon.
The HP EliteBook x360 830 G10 sounds like a business device and that's exactly what it is. The compact, 13-inch laptop has a 360-degree hinge display at its disposal meaning it is particularly flexible on the go. The laptop is currently unavailable on Amazon but you should budget around $1,400 for the work-based machine.
On numerous occasions, Asus has already proven itself to be a manufacturer of good business laptops with its range of ExpertBooks. Once again, the current 14-inch ExpertBook B5 Flip with its 360-degree flip hinge scored well in our tests. Price-wise, the ExpertBook starts at around $1,049 on Amazon.
In addition to the high-quality Legion 7 models, Lenovo has also introduced the cheaper Legion 5 range. It is from this range we reviewed the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16. The multimedia laptop is suitable for gaming as well as multimedia and creation-based tasks. The device performed well in our tests, with the deductions only coming in the area of mobility. Prices are around $2,129 (RTX 4060) and can reach the $2,300 mark if you go for an RTX 4070.
Dell's Precision 5490 is a classic, compact (14-inch), mobile workstation for application professionals. It is available in a variety of variants which help it fit perfectly to the individual requirements and available budget. Thanks to the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 processors, the workstation series has received a successful boost in terms of AI acceleration for the first time. The device is available directly from Dell and costs upwards of $3,000, although this is highly dependent on the chosen configuration.
The most powerful horse in Medion's stable answers to the name of Beast X40 and currently enjoys the most performant components such as an Intel i9 CPU and a Geforce RTX 4090 from Nvidia. Enthusiasts might also be interested in optional water cooling for the device which is priced at around $3,500.
Not only Samsung's Ultra is a success. Its Galaxy Book4 Pro 16 also managed to impress us for long parts of our testing. The thin metal case offers plentiful connection possibilities, a very good display and the Intel Core Ultra CPU and the integrated Arc GPU also fit perfectly with the package on offer. Amazon is currently listing the laptop for around $1,239.
With an unusual 15.3-inch format, the XMG Fusion 15 E24 combines powerful processors and GPUs (RTX 4070). The device weighs only 2.1 kilograms and is just 22 millimeters thick. The result is an unexpectedly mobile and simultaneously powerful device for numerous application scenarios. The Fusion 15's price starts at around $1,600 and depends heavily on its specs.
With the Pavilion Plus 16, HP is offering a very reasonably priced and, at the same time, moderately powerful all-round device with a generous, 16-inch display. We were positively surprised by the laptop's moderate noise levels as well as the good 120 Hz display. The version with an RTX 4060 GPU is currently unavailable on Amazon but can usually be had for around $1,300.
The Yoga Pro 9 16 is somewhat lighter and slimmer, and maybe even more elegant, but is just as powerful as the Legion models. Made for creators and enthusiasts, in addition to the Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 4070 graphics solution, the Yoga Pro 9 also has a wonderful mini-LED display. The laptop can be configured directly on Lenovo's store. The device is currently unavailable there but normally costs around $2,000.
In addition to the well-known XPS 13, for a few years, Dell has also offered a larger variant that is at home in the multimedia and creator's domain. The Dell XPS 16 9640 has increased the diagonal display dimension from its previous 15 inches to 16 and has now also integrated the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. An RTX 4070 is responsible for expanded possibilities when it comes to gaming as well as editing images and videos. The XPS 16's starting price is listed as $1,599 on Dell's online store.
Compact (14-inch), light (1.2 kg), good performance reserves (AMD Ryzen 7) and a very good OLED display - these are the pillars of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED. In our review, we're impressed by the Zenbook 14 OLED's good battery life, solid performance, and, especially, its very good display. The device can be had from around $1,399, for example, on Amazon.
Gaming from HP goes by the name of Omen. The HP Omen Transcend 14 is a compact, 14-inch machine with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and an RTX 4060 GPU. We also like its 120 Hz OLED display. Price-wise, HP is going all out, with a current asking price (currently unavailable on Amazon) of around $2,000.
Likewise, the compact and powerful category is home to Lenovo's Yoga Pro 7 14. It comes equipped with the newest Intel Core Ultra processors and integrated Intel Arc graphics, as well as a very good 120 Hz IPS display. In our review, the Yoga Pro 7 not only impressed us with its good performance but mobility was also spot on. The device comes in at around $1,599, for example, on Best Buy.
The HP Omen Transcend 16 has a 14th gen Intel i9 CPU, an RTX 4070 graphics card and a fast, 240 Hz OLED display which cut a good figure in our review. The HP Omen Transcend is currently available on Best Buy (14-inch only) for around $ 1,999.
When it comes to high-end gaming from Asus, the ROG Strix Scar 18 is the first choice. The specs speak for themselves - this is an 18-inch powerhouse with an Intel i9 processor, Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics and bags of storage space. In terms of the display, we are dealing with a QHD+ mini-LED panel with a 240 Hz refresh rate. However, this amount of power isn't cheap as this device will have you forking out around $3,899.
With its 14-inch display, Lenovo's Yoga Slim 7 14 is a tick more compact than the Yoga Pro 7 and has the new Intel Core Ultra processors, Intel Arc graphics and also comparatively higher performance reserves at its disposal. The Slim 7 14 starts at around $1,000. The Dell Latitude 9450 2-in-1 laptop has a 360-degree display and is primarily used for professional tasks. It's not only the high level of flexibility that speaks for the Latitude but its mobility and battery life of up to 14 hours in real-life situations are important arguments. Hold on tight when it comes to the price: Dell's asking price is around $3,069 for its mobile business professional.
Tons of power, a big display and numerous configuration options: The Dell Precision 5690 aims to fulfil the highest demands in a professional environment. With the new Intel Core Ultra processors, the device has also received additional computational power in the field of AI. The prices vary greatly and depend on the respective specs, ranging from $2,500 to almost $7,850.
Lenovo's IdeaPad Pro 5 14 is an affordable and universally useable 14-inch laptop. Equipped with an AMD CPU and integrated AMD graphics, combined with a high-quality OLED display, the IdeaPad Pro 5 scores well, especially when it comes to its excellent price-performance ratio. Lenovo is looking for around $1,199 for this device.
Its bigger brother, the IdeaPad Pro 5 16, also impressed us for much of our review. The laptop comes with Intel Core Ultra processors and integrated Intel Arc graphics as well as a 120 Hz IPS display. The package can be purchased via Lenovo (currently unavailable) for around $1,300.
The Asus ZenBook Duo OLED is quite a special device: Its two large and premium 14-inch OLED displays and a removable keyboard open the door to a whole new world of possibilities. The device comes in at around $2,099.
Among numerous new laptops from Samsung, we also find 2-in-1 machines. In other words, laptops whose special hinge allows them to be used as a tablet. With the new Intel Core Ultra processor and an OLED display, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro 360 covers a wide range of applications. The device can be purchased on Samsung's online store for around $1,399.
The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 has also managed to join the group of highest-rated laptops. In our review, the 16-inch gaming machine came with an Intel i9 CPU and an RTX 4080 graphics unit as well as a fast mini-LED display. Amazon lists the device for around $2,890.
You will also find numerous interesting laptops in the top list below, ranked according to their overall Notebookcheck review ratings.
Our favorites - Editor's Choice Awards Spring 2024
Based on our test results during the review period, we carry out an editorial vote among senior authors and subsequently award the Editor's Choice Award. Special awards are given to laptops which stand out due to their successful overall package, top performance in specific evaluation areas or a particularly good price-performance ratio, representing an attractive purchase option for our editors in their respective category.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 OLED 2024
In recent months, the Zephyrus G14 has not only received a sensational top review rating of 93% but it now receives the Editor's Choice Award. Asus put together a superb package in the form of our G14 review model, comprising an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU, an Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070 GPU and a 120 Hz, high-resolution OLED display in a compact and mobile, 1.5 kilogram, 14-inch, aluminum case. The input devices and port selection also both hit the spot.
In tests, the display was particularly impressive. The implemented OLED panel delivers excellent contrast, supports HDR and boasts extremely low response times (a very low 1 millisecond). On top of that, the panel is equipped with a 120 Hz refresh rate and covers the sRGB and DCI P3 color spaces entirely. This an area where creators get their money's worth. The system performance is also good with the combination of a Ryzen 9 CPU and an RTX 4070 GPU ensuring the device can even handle modern games perfectly. We were also impressed by the very good built-in speakers.
In the variant equipped with an RTX 4060 GPU, the Asus Zephyrus G14 OLED currently costs around $1,599, for example, on Best Buy. With a little more CPU power, more RAM and a more powerful RTX 4070 graphics card, the Zephyrus G14 comes in at around $1,999.
We also compare the best 14-inch gaming devices, including the Zephyrus G14, in this video:
Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14AHP9
In our review, the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14AHP9 presented itself as a superb choice for everyone seeking a mobile laptop that can be used in a wide range of situations, from simple work-related tasks to gaming - especially if you value a good display and have a tight budget. The IdeaPad Pro 5 manages this balancing act thanks to the combination of an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, an integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics card and a 14-inch OLED display. With an overall weight of 1.5 kilograms and a thickness of just 16 millimeters, the laptop is also extremely mobile.
The 120 Hz display scored many points in the review and impressed us with OLED-typical high contrast and extremely low response times. Out-of-the-box, the panel also covers the usual color spaces and is accurately calibrated. The installed CPU and GPU deliver superior system performance but the 780M quickly reaches its limits when gaming. Nevertheless, current games can also be played smoothly with modified settings. Finally, future users will enjoy a battery life of up to 9 hours in everyday situations.
A strong argument for the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14 is its price: Lenovo normally lists the laptop for around $1,300 (currently unavailable) but also regularly offers a discount of 10% or more, for example, when registering.
