Lenovo Yoga Book 9 13IMU9 2-in-1 dual screen review: Core Ultra 7 155U and Arc 4 are a mixed bag
The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i 2-in-1 Dual Screen made its debut at CES 2023 before launching that summer for $2000 USD. For 2024, the manufacturer has swapped out the Raptor Lake-U processor for Meteor Lake-U while keeping almost everything else the same.
Our test unit comes with the Core Ultra 7 155U CPU, 16 GB of LPDDR5x-7467 RAM, 1 TB M.2 2242 PCIe4 x4 NVMe SSD, and two identical 2800 x 1800 OLED HDR500 touchscreens for the same 2023 launch price of $2000.

Case — Double Displays
There are no changes to the chassis except for the new Microsoft Co-Pilot key on the included Bluetooth keyboard. Some new color options would have been nice to see to better differentiate the 2023 and 2024 options.
We recommend checking out our review on the 2023 model to learn more about the physical features of the Yoga Book 9 13IMU9 2-in-1.

Display — No Major Changes
The same Samsung SDC ATNA33AA02-0 OLED panels have returned from the 2023 model meaning the visual experience has not changed. While the screens are vivid and super spacious for multitasking, the 60 Hz refresh rate is starting to feel long in the tooth when other OLED laptops like the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro or Asus ZenBook offer 90 Hz or faster.
The two screens still exhibit many of the same annoying behaviors as the 2023 model. For example, the positioning of the screens always resets after rebooting even if a third external screen is connected. Thus, you can expect to spend a lot of time rearranging your screens when docking the laptop.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
Screen flickering / PWM detected | 60 Hz | ≤ 100 % brightness setting | |
The display backlight flickers at 60 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 60 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8705 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
Pulse-width modulation is present on all brightness levels including the maximum setting. Its frequency is around 237 Hz from 0 to 57 percent brightness before changing to 60 Hz from 58 percent brightness and up.
Performance — New Processor Doesn't Change Much
Testing Conditions
We set the system to Performance mode prior to running the benchmarks below. Lenovo Vantage has also been redesigned this year to be easier to navigate, but its text boxes still do not utilize the full width of the screen and so there are huge swaths of empty white space as shown by the screenshots below.
Processor
Not to be confused with the Core Ultra 7 155H, the Core Ultra 7 155U is the ULV variant with both slower clock rates and a slower integrated GPU. In this case, the Core Ultra 7 155U in our Lenovo is about 35 percent slower than the Core Ultra 7 155H in the Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IMH9. The delta is quite significant to the point where the CPU in our 2024 Yoga Book is just barely faster than the Core i7-1355U in the older 2023 model by single-digit percentage points.

System Performance
Average PCMark results are slightly higher than what we recorded on the 2023 Yoga Book 9. The minor but consistent year-over-year advantages can be attributed to small internal improvements such as the slightly faster CPU (Raptor Lake-U to Meteor Lake-U), iGPU (Iris Xe 96 EUs to Arc 4), and RAM (4266 MHz to 7467 MHz).

Storage Devices
Our test unit uses the same Western Digital PC SN740 NVMe SSD as before albeit at double capacity (1 TB vs. 512 GB). Performance is steady with just minor-moderate throttling after a few minutes of stress as shown by our DiskSpd loop test results below.

GPU Performance — Arc 4 Feels Like Iris Xe
Unlike the Core Ultra H series and its integrated Arc 8 graphics, the Core Ultra U series come with integrated Arc 4 graphics instead. Arc 4 is significantly slower by 30 to 50 percent which puts it far behind even the older Radeon 680M. In fact, the new GPU is barely any faster than the Iris Xe 96 EUs in last year's Yoga Book 9 as shown by their near identical 3DMark scores and gaming performances below.
Power Profile | Graphics Score | Physics Score | Combined Score |
Performance Mode | 5390 | 19839 | 1843 |
Balanced Mode | 5433 | 18727 | 1803 |
Battery Power | 5373 | 20285 | 1902 |
There are no appreciable performance differences between Performance, Balanced, and Battery modes as shown by our Fire Strike results table above.
