Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 14AHP9 review: Fast midrange convertible dragged down by a weak display
Verdict — Disappointing Display For An Otherwise Great Design and Performer
Lenovo's midrange 14-inch convertible is thinner and more professional than the cheaper IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14 we just reviewed. Performance and design are a step above the competition especially in the sub $900 range.
Arguably the biggest drawback to the system is its limited sRGB color reproduction from the IPS configuration. This would have been more easily forgivable for a budget-oriented series like the IdeaPad 5, but the Yoga series is generally held to higher standards. A 1200p OLED configuration is available to directly address this issue and appease content editors, albeit the price increase would bump the model to over $1000 USD. At this price range, the higher resolution and faster OLED panel on the Asus ZenBook 14 series becomes more competitive.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
Lenovo is now shipping the Yoga 7 2-in-1 14 starting at $675 for the base Ryzen 5 configuration. The configuration as reviewed is also available on Amazon for $900.

Details here
The Yoga 7 2-in-1 14AHP9 is the AMD-variant of the Intel-powered Yoga 7 2-in-1 14IML9. The external designs are otherwise identical between the two models.
Our test unit ships with the Ryzen 7 8840HS and 1200p IPS touchscreen for approximately $900. Other SKUs may ship with the Ryzen 5 8640HS or 1200p OLED touchscreen instead.
Alternatives to the Yoga 7 2-in-1 14 include other midrange or higher 14-inch convertibles like the HP Envy x360 14, Asus ZenBook Flip 14, or LG Gram 14.

Specifications
Case
We recommend checking out our existing review on the physically identical Yoga 7 2-in-1 14IML9 to learn more about the chassis design of the Yoga 7 2-in-1 14AHP9. The skeleton is mostly anodized aluminum for the outer cover and bottom for higher quality first impressions. The hinges, however, could have been stiffer.
Connectivity
Port options have not changed from the Intel SKU albeit without official support for Thunderbolt 4. Additionally, note that only one of the two USB-C ports supports USB4 speeds.

Webcam
There are no changes to the 2 MP webcam.
Maintenance
The bottom panel pops off relatively easily with a Torx screwdriver and sharp plastic edge. There are no major internal differences between the AMD and Intel SKUs.
Sustainability
The packaging is plastic-free while the AC adapter consists of 90 percent post-consumer recycled plastic. Meanwhile, the bottom cover of the laptop consists of 50 percent recycled aluminum.
Accessories And Warranty
There are no extras in the box other than the AC adapter and paperwork. A one-year limited manufacturer warranty applies if purchased in the US.
Display
The IPS panel on our test unit appears to be identical to the panel used for the cheaper IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AHP9 for essentially the same viewing experience between the two models. This is unfortunate as the specific IPS panel in question is of the cheaper variety with limited sRGB. The IPS panel on the Latitude 7450 2-in-1, for example, covers sRGB in its entirety compared to only 56 percent on our Lenovo.

The display does not come pre-calibrated. Calibrating it ourselves with an X-Rite colorimeter would improve average grayscale and color DeltaE values from 5.6 and 6.79 to 4.1 and 3.53, respectively.

Testing Conditions
We set both Windows and Lenovo Vantage to Performance mode prior to running the benchmarks below.
Processor
CPU performance is excellent especially when compared to most other 14-inch convertibles where slower U-series CPUs are much more common. Our Ryzen 7 8840HS is more comparable to systems with H-series Intel CPUs like the pricier Core Ultra 7 165H in the HP EliteBook x360 1040 G11.

The CPU would spike to 4.2 GHz, 51 W, and 83 C when initiating Prime95 stress before quickly dropping and stabilizing at 3.3 GHz, 34 W, and 88 C just a couple of seconds later. Core temperature plateaus at just under 70 C when running demanding loads like games compared to almost 80 C on the OmniBook Ultra 14 Flip under similar conditions.

Storage Devices
Our system ships with the same SK Hynix PCIe4 x4 M.2 2242 NVMe SSD as found on the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14. Interestingly, it also exhibits the same temporary dip in performance during our DiskSpd loop test as shown below. This is more likely a bug than a true throttling problem.
