AMD Ryzen AI 7 445 disappoints in first in-house benchmarks

Laptops with the AMD Ryzen AI 400 series are now widely available to replace the outgoing Ryzen AI 300 series. One particular SKU is the Ryzen AI 7 445 which can be found on midrange to higher-end models like the recent Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16. Unfortunately, the newer CPU doesn't bring much to the table.
As shown by the comparison tables below, the Ryzen AI 7 445 is barely faster than the much more efficient Core Ultra 7 256V in terms of raw processor performance while also being significantly slower when it comes to integrated graphics performance. In fact, the CPU is essentially on par with the older and less expensive Ryzen AI 5 340. A closer look at their paper specifications reveals that the Ryzen AI 7 445 and Ryzen AI 5 340 share almost the same underlying hardware for essentially the same performance metrics.
Arguably the most disappointing aspect of the Ryzen AI 7 445 is that it's the first in the mobile Ryzen AI 7 lineup to feature 6 cores instead of 8. There's a strong case to be made that the Ryzen AI 7 445 should have been a Ryzen AI 5 SKU as a result especially since the CPU features only half the L3 cache size of the Ryzen AI 5 340. If you're looking to save some money on your next purchase, then you may want to consider the cheaper Ryzen AI 5 340 instead since it performs almost identically to the Ryzen AI 7 445.
