HP refreshes popular business laptops with AMD Gorgon Point and Intel Panther Lake processors

HP has refreshed its EliteBook range today with several new laptops and desktops. For instance, the company has introduced new EliteBook 6 laptops alongside the EliteBook G2q. Additionally, HP has replaced the EliteBook 8 G1 series, which it sold with AMD Strix Point, Intel Arrow Lake-U and Intel Lunar Lake processors (curr. $2,039 on Amazon).
For the time being, HP is being rather coy about which processors it has included inside the EliteBook 8 G2a and EliteBook 8 G2i. As far as we can tell, the former adopts AMD's Gorgon Point platform with minimal performance or efficiency improvements from Strix Point. By contrast, the EliteBook 8 G2i should utilise Panther Lake processors, with HP mentioning undefined Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 SKUs.
The EliteBook 8 G2i comes in more sizes than its AMD counterpart, too. Specifically, HP has created the following EliteBook 8 G2a and EliteBook 8 G2i variants:
- EliteBook 8 G2a 14-inch
- EliteBook 8 G2a 16-inch
- EliteBook 8 G2i 13-inch
- EliteBook 8 G2i 13-inch convertible
- EliteBook 8 G2i 14-inch
- EliteBook 8 G2i 16-inch
All variants will be configurable with multiple panels up to 2.5K and 120 Hz VRR options for all 14-inch and 16-inch variants. HP has confirmed that IPS and OLED panels will be available at launch too. Other differences include soldered LPDD5X-8533 RAM for some SKUs and user-upgradeable DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6400 RAM for others.
All EliteBook 8 G2 sizes should also be configurable with 256 GB through to 1 TB of storage. Currently, HP hopes to begin selling the EliteBook 8 G2a and EliteBook 8 G2i in April. Pricing remains unknown at this stage, though.
