Chuwi responds to CPU fraud, does not replace all affected models

The Chuwi CoreBook X is one of at least three Chuwi products that were delivered with an older CPU than advertised.
After we found an older, less powerful processor than advertised in the Chuwi CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus, Chuwi has finally officially commented on this scandal - and offered customers a possible solution. However, Chuwi is still not commenting on the extent of this possible fraud attempt.

Over the past few weeks, we have tested both a Chuwi CoreBook X as well as a CoreBook Plus. In both devices, we did not find the AMD Ryzen 5 7430U Chuwi advertised, but the older and up to 20 percent less powerful AMD Ryzen 5 5500U. The chip is still based on the older Zen 2 instead of Zen 3 architecture, and only has 8 MB instead of 16 MB L3 cache. Chuwi has now officially commented on this incident in a statement for the first time.

According to the statement, a "limited number" of Chuwi CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus were manufactured with an "incorrect" processor. Anyone affected can contact the manufacturer for support via the e-mail address service@chuwi.com, but returns and refunds will be handled by the respective retailer. This recall program is only valid until 31 May 2026, and only if the device is in mint condition and is returned with the complete original scope of delivery.

The also affected Chuwi Ubox is not part of the program. Chuwi's statement also provides no new clues as to how this CPU fraud came about or how many units are affected. After AMD denied any involvement, the blame is likely to lie either with Chuwi itself or with the contract manufacturer Emdoor - it is not yet known who exactly swapped the label on the chips. While the CPU falsely identifies itself to Windows as a Ryzen 5 7430U, CPU-Z from version 2.19 shows both CPU designations if there is a fraud. Here is the full statement from Chuwi:
