Replacing version 250407, ExLight 260322 comes with the kernel 6.19.8-amd64-exton and its list of highlights includes the Enlightenment 0.27.1 environment, Calamares 3.3.14-1, Refracta Snapshot, as well as a generous list of updated packages. The base used is Debian 13.4 Trixie.

One of the almost 20 distros that carry the Exton Linux banner, ExLight, has just received a new update. Build 20260322 is the first one received by ExLight this year and replaces last year's 250407. Based on Debian 13.4 Trixie, ExLight 20260322 sports the Enlightenment 0.27.1 desktop environment and uses the Calamares 3.3.14-1 installer. Additionally, the Refracta Snapshot app comes to help users create their own live installable Debian Sid/Trixie system in a matter of minutes.

Exton Linux ExLight 20260322 comes with a long list of packages, which can be found on this page. In addition to the above, these are some of the highlights that are worth being mentioned:

  • The ISO file is now ISO-hybrid, so it can be easily moved to a USB drive. Persistence is in the list of features as well.
  • The 6.14.0-amd64-exton kernel was replaced with 6.19.8-amd64-exton.
  • The system can run directly from memory, as long as it has at least 4 GB installed. Once everything is loaded, the boot USB/disc can be removed.
  • Refracta Installer is available as an alternative to those who don't want to use Calamares, providing users with a different setup experience.

The downloadables are available on SourceForge. The only ISO file available is 2.9 GB in size. Sadly, it needs a computer no older than about a decade to run properly, and there is no support for 32-bit hardware. On the bright side, those who want to remain in the Exton Linux universe and grab something for their old machines might find something suitable here, for example, Debian Pixel.
